Two super hits under her belt, but Bollywood starlet Vidya Balan can’t just do item songs. She set the box office on fire, was hailed as the sex symbol and even won all awards. But the actress is getting flak on social networking platforms about her Marathi item number ‘Mala Jau De’ in the film ‘Ferarri ki Sawari’. The traditional ‘lavni’ number doesn’t do anything for the audience. Seems it was the trendy thing to do, that even Kareena Kapoor and Katrina Kaif are doing. But, they haven’t won national awards and even some producers feel Vidya should give up on the item songs.

Bollywood newcomer Sonakshi Sinha is the other no item girl. But, the difference is that she admits she can’t bring herself to do an item number. Veteran actor Shatrughan Sinha’s daughter might on the one hand cave in that she’s not bold enough, but on the other hand says she just hasn’t been presented with one to fit her style. A good song, presented in a right way might pique her interest, Sonakshi reportedly said. Sona says the song “Chhammak chhallo chhail chhabeeli” in her upcoming flick ‘Rowdy Rathore’ isn’t an item song but situational with a wedding backdrop. Sonakshi’s two films, ‘Dabangg’ and ‘Rowdy Rathore’, present her as a desi village belle. She’s not clamoring for glamor.
