Designers Promote Cotton To promote the fabric, high-profile designers and brands joined hands together with Cotton Council International. They showcased their cotton collections in a fashion show as part of the initiative Cottonscape 2012 in Mumbai recently. Anita Dongre’s collection saw models walk down the ramp clad in anarkali suits, gowns, jumpsuits and achkan lehengas, all done in white, red and black. Apparel brand Provogue showcased its summer casual wear on the ramp. Designer Rina Dhaka also showcased her prêt wears with suits, sarees, lehenga choli and dresses with asymmetric cuts and silhouettes. South African Designs in India Pick the silhouettes from the west, prints from the east, accessories from the north and detailing art from the south! Fashion has been encompassing cross-cultural themes lately. Evident to this fact was a designer from Tanzania state of East Africa, who recently showcased his collection at Blenders Pride Bangalore Fashion Week in Karnataka state. Mustafa Hassan Ali, showcased his African inspired collection themed ‘Sights N’ Sounds of Africa’. Models sashayed down the ramp in western silhouettes like gowns, skirts and casual cocktail dresses with variations in neck designs and asymmetric yet feminine fluid cuts. The traditional fabric called Khanga and ofcourse, the African prints and designs on the outfits reflected the true African character. Vikram Phadnis @ Pune Fashion Week Known for his splendid collections, designer Vikram Phadnis always keeps up with the expectations that the audiences have from him. Same happened when he showcased his traditionally magnificent collection on the ramp at the Pune Fashion Week recently held in the city. Models sashayed down the ramp in churidaars, anarkalis, lehengas, sarees, kurta shararas and ghaghras teamed with waistcoats, while male models dashed down in black and ivory sherwanis with multi-coloured shawls. Bollywood actress Neha Dhupia cheered for the designer from the front row.
