'Rules - Pyaar Ka Super Hit Formula'. This film, being awaited for many weeks now, has a new debut director Parvati Balgopalan. A 30-something age group who has joined hands to make a film company Crossover Films also holds the direction baton. She also doubles up as a co-producer for the film 'Rules-Pyaar Ka Super Hit Formula'. There are three more people associated with this new film company as producers namely, Nirja Shah, Deepa Sahi, and our own good-looking hunk Milind Soman. Soman is also working in this film. The film takes its inspiration from the oldies like Guddi where a fan falls head over heels for his idol. But 'Rules-Pyaar Ka Super Hit Formula' is not just another film; it is so different from those so-called routine films in Bollywood that it is very difficult to slot it in a particular genre.
Although being labeled a romantic comedy at the end of the day, this film is also one more clear indication that new generation film makers are no more interested in oft-repeated formula of Bollywood as they eye the new audience and want to ensure that people who come to see their films don't feel cheated at the end of the film. Whatever may be the outcome of this film, 'Rules-Pyaar Ka Super Hit Formula', it entertains you for sure.
Radha (Meera Vasudevan) is a happy go lucky girl without worries and pains of her age. She is a working girl and assists renowned fashion photographer Uday Singh. She has been a great fan of this model known as Vikram Verma (played by Milind Soman himself) for the last one-decade or so. One may call it an infatuation as whatever feelings this young girl has for Vikram. Opportunity for Radha comes calling when Uday gets an assignment to shoot him and famous model Maggi (Namrata Barua) for an advertising campaign. Vikram is totally oblivious of Radha's intentions, but the lady is desperate to win him over and does not find anything bad in applying some time-tested tactics for this purpose and none other than Radha's grandmother (Tanuja, in an impressive performance) comes for her help. The grandmother teaches him how to win a man's heart and gives her some Rules for that. Radha is overjoyed to see that the Rules really work. As she uses each rule she gets closer to Vikram, but when she finally succeeds in winning his affection, she realizes the deception in what she has done.
'Rules-Pyaar Ka Super Hit Formula' sets many new trends for Bollywood. Though it has been Kaizad Gustad's 'Boom', which has been touted as the first film that throws light on the personal life of glamour hunks and ladies, it is heartening to see more meaningful aspects of this industry. This film also sees Milind Soman maturing on the screen with time. He portrays a role that is more human. Milind has a certain kind of quality of a perfect man and that helps this to make this film look more real and near to life. And what a debut it has been for this young girl Meera Vasudevan who plays the role of Radha. She is the bubbly and chirpy girl who cannot make out the difference between real love and arranged love. She joins the bandwagon of some experienced people in the film but it is her raw appeal that does value addition to the film.
Tanuja is just superb in this role. It is for the first time that we get to see her playing a modern age granny. She comes with a different kind of notion on screen, but ends up with a different aura around her.
'Rules-Pyaar Ka Super Hit' Formula also sees some more new names in its credits. And, at least two more people leave their impression as their respective debuts. Lyricist Subrat Sinha and R.N.Dubey come out with a song that may not have become hits by now but they have certainly left their mark in a short span of being around. Just listen to the song Uljhano Ko De Diya and you will find honey melting in your mouth. It is a song where a girl is proposing her love to her lover. There is another number by famous 'Bombay Vikings', 'Pyaar Ke Naam'. All this and the direction by debutant Parvati Balgopalan make 'Rules-Pyaar Ka Super Hit Formula' a film to watch. She has been assisted by a good technical team. Apart from photography, it is music by Sandesh Shandilya that leaves its mark in the film. It may fall short of the expectations if you had were hoping to see an outstanding film but it cannot be rejected out rightly also.
