A Sunny Deol-Amisha Patel starrer, 'Gada--Ek Prem Kahani', is a film that is set around the time of partition. It deals with the situation that prevailed at that time and tries to probe the psyche of the people. Anil Sharma, the director, has a reputation for making run-of-the-mill films. His 'Hukumat', starring Dharmendra and Rati Agnihotri, proved to be a blockbuster in the early eighties and to date it has been his biggest success. As far as the subject of the current film is concerned, it must have been a challenge for Anil. How successful he has been in his endeavor only time will tell.

Apart from the issue of partition, the film also recounts the love story of Sunny Deol and Amisha Patel. Sunny plays a grease-stained bearded truck driver while Amisha plays a young girl. The age difference between the two is noticeable and her casting was according to the demand of the script, says Anil. "We were looking for a young girl with a fresh face opposite him to justify the unique love story."

Interestingly, the film was to be produced by Sharma himself, but when Zee got to know of it they decided to take over the project and produce it. Since the project needed big money, Anil was only too willing to let Zee in.

The film ran into some trouble with a fundamentalist organization in Lucknow when it was being shot there. There were some other problems too, but it is now complete and post-production is in the final stages. The film is likely to be released in the next couple of months. Amisha Patel, the heroine, is looking forward to this with bated breath, because according to her, it portrays her in a totally different manner as compared to her previous roles.

The music for the film has been scored by Uttam Singh.
