The movie titled Race deserves special consideration for various reasons. First, it is directed by Abbas-Mustan, who are one of the very few excellent directors of Bollywood. Second, the Abbas-Mustan duo has a special taste for music. And, the music director is Pritam who is very popular these days and, in fact, needed a movie like this for composing music after Naqaab that didn't click as well. The lyricist is Sameer, also a well-known figure in his field. Third, its star cast comprises topmost actors like Saif Ali Khan, Akshaye Khanna, Katrina Kaif, Anil Kapoor and Bipasha Basu. Lastly, its producers are Tips' Turanis. So, the movie as well as its music album is quite promising. This album's soundtrack comes in 2 cds with a whopping 16 songs. But, only five of the songs are orginal while the rest numbering 11 are remixes. The original sound tracks are on Tips.
The very first track Race Saanson Mein is a chartbuster. This will certainly prove a hit in nightclubs. Though its lyrics aren't too good yet not too boring either. Lyricist Sameer is not to blame for this, though ; he had to do his job in a given situation. In fact, the word "race" has been thrust into the song . The main mukhra of the song is "Allah duhaai hai…betaabi chaahi hai". And, the song has been well sung by Neeraj and still better by Sunidhi Chauhan. It sounds like an entertainer with addictive electronic guitar strings and heavy snyth beats Apart from this, it's like Pritam's repertoire of rock music.
The next track 'Zara zara touch me' has oodles of seduction and sensuality with all the three - Sunidhi Chauhan, Shaan and KK - thrown into it. Monali has played her part very well. When the music gets monotonous, Monali comes to the rescue by her excellent rendition . Hopefully, her rendition would prove a chartbuster, too!
The next track Pehli Nazar Mein is a soft rock stylized mushy. The soft rock music is gentle and addictive, thanks to some pleasant guitar strumming, but the credit goes to none other than the brilliant Pakistani singer named Atif Aslam of the 'Woh Lamhe' and 'Tere Bin' fame. His vocals lift it to a new pitch . He expresses the emotions of someone who has just fallen in love. And, Sameer's lyrics leave big impact. Overall, this is a must listen at least because of Atif's performance . So, try it once more. You may like it.
Of the two remixes (by DJ Suketu), the Club Mix is the recommended one. The Lounge Mix is faster and contains more beats but in truth both pale in comparison to the original.
The next track 'Dekho Nashe Mein' is an average song; not worth mentioning. The song sung by a talented team of Shaan, Sunidhi, and KK turns helpless. You may easily move to next track.
The last track of the album Mujhpe To Jaadu is the only track, which is not remixed while all the other tracks are remixed. Taz, Apache Indian, and Sunidhi Chauhan sing the track. This song is not bad but the English in this song is too clichéd.
Overall, 'Race' is a good album and one can repeat it without getting bored..
