Writer Honey Irani makes her directorial debut with 'Armaan', a film that revolves around the life of doctors. Having started as a child actor and then moving on to write scripts for the likes of Yash Chopra, Honey Irani has indeed come a long way to start her own movie with a big star cast ranging from Amitabh Bachchan, Anil Kapoor, Randhir Kapoor to Preity Zinta and Gracy Singh, respectively. Dinesh Gandhi is the producer whereas Shankar-Ehsan-Loy composed the music for the film on the lyrics by Javed Akhtar. The nine tracks soundtrack for the film has been released under the label of T-Series.
The soundtrack opens with the brilliant romantic track, 'Mere Dil Ka Tumse Hai Kehna'. Rendered by the highly underrated Chitra, the track has all that it takes to make it to the chartbuster category. A pleasantly composed catchy track has Chitra rendering it with perfection. Javed Akhtar as the lyricist is in his elements producing some very interesting lyrics for the track. Shankar-Ehsan-Loy do well whether it's the composition or the arrangements. The use of all musical instruments is fantastic.
The following track, 'Meri Zindagi Mein Aaye Ho', has the versatile Sonu Nigam teaming up with Sunidhi Chauhan to render another catchy track for the soundtrack. Both the singers are perfectly in sync and impress you with their rendition of the track. Javed Akhtar pens good lyrics whereas composers Shankar-Ehsan-Loy come up with another good composition. An impeccable track to come in at number two after the impressive opening track.
For the next track on the album, 'Jaane Yeh Kya Ho Gaya', Shankar Mahadevan pairs up with Alka Yagnik to deliver a romantic duet. Both the singers Shankar and Alka render it remarkably well. The track has a melodious composition and should appeal to music listeners. The lyrics by Javed Akhtar yet again prove his creativity. The composers Shankar-Ehsan-Loy do another good job with their composition to make it sound lively and catchy.
'Aao Milke Gayen' is the next track on the album. It has impressive vocalists such as Udit Narayan, Mahalaxmi Iyer, Shankar Mahadevan and Amitabh Bachchan to render it. A situational fun track it should appeal more on the big screen than your sound systems with Amitabh Bachchan in his elements as one of the vocalists for the track. The other singers Udit Narayan, Mahalaxmi Iyer and Shankar Mahadevan do well too, but the fans of Amitabh Bachchan will definitely enjoy his vocals. The lyrics by Javed Akhtar are effective. Composers Shankar-Ehsan-Loy do well to come up with another impressive composition.
The next track is another version of an earlier track. So here we have Shreya Ghosal rendering the female version of the track, 'Tu Hi Bata Zindagi', which is earlier rendered by Roop Kumar Rathod. The impressive young female playback singer Shreya excels on this track too. Lyrics by Javed Akhtar and Shankar-Ehsan-Loy's composition are not much different from the original track on the album.
The following track, 'Main Gaaon Tum Gao' has an array of vocalists in the form of Udit Narayan, Mahalaxmi Iyer, Shaan and new find Bhairavi Kumble. This is another situational fun track, which should hold more appeal on the big screen than on your sound system. Nevertheless all the vocalists featured on this track do well and the composition by Shankar-Ehsan-Loy is also good. The lyrics by Javed Akhtar are functional. But overall it is an average track to listen to.
The penultimate track on the album is like an instrumental theme track. Titled, 'Jugalbandi' it should serve its purpose in the film.
The concluding track includes dialogues by the irrepressible Amitabh Bachchan. A perfect way to wrap up the soundtrack of a film featuring the Big B.
On the whole, the soundtrack of Armaan is neat and tidy. The rendition by all the singers featured on the soundtrack complements the compositions and lyrics to make it a good buy. ...
