Kareena Kapoor had hit Rs. 70 million mark to sign a movie, while producer Bobby Pushkarna who is a national award winner for 'Page 3' has reportedly offered Aishwarya Rai Bachchan Rs. 100 million for his next to be made on the lines of Jag Mundhra's 'Provoked'. Bobby says that he has been chasing the actress for three months. If Ash does not agree, he would rather shelve it, he vows.
Well-known filmmaker and bollywood super star Aamir Khan's father Tahir Hussain passed away following a massive heart attack in Mumbai on 2nd February 2010. Hussain was a producer, director and writer of Bollywood movies and known for producing hit films like 'Hum Hain Rahi Pyar Ke' starring son Aamir, 'Dulha Bikta Hai', 'Zakhmee' 'Anamika' and 'Caravan'. In 1990, Tahir cast son Aamir for the first time in his directorial debut 'Tum Mere Ho'. Hussain died at Aamir's residence in Mumbai. Aamir and his wife Kiran Rao who are in the US are returning and so also grandson Imran Khan from New Zealand.
The most stunning actress of the golden era Waheeda Rehman celebrates her 74th birthday on 3rd February 2010. The actress hit the silver screen with the Telugu film 'Jaisimha' in 1955. Then, Guru Dutt discovered, brought her to Mumbai and cast her as a vamp in his production 'C.I.D' in 1956. After the success of 'C.I.D' Guru Dutt gave her a leading role in 'Pyaasa' in 1957. In her filmy career she gave many hits including 'Pyaasa', 'Kaagaz Ke Phool', 'Chaudhvin Ka Chand' and 'Sahib Bibi Aur Ghulam. The veteran actress won the Filmfare best actress award for her role in 'Guide' in 1965 and National Award for 'Reshma Aur Shera'. In 1974, she got married to actor Kamaljeet and retired from the film industry for 12 years. In recent years she made a comeback playing mother and grandmother's roles in 'Om Jai Jagadish' in 2002 and 'Rang De Basanti' in 2006 and 'Delhi 6' in 2009. Indian maestro musician A R Rahman is out from the Oscar race in 2010. He failed to earn a nomination for his song 'Na Na' for his Hollywood debut movie 'Couple's Retreat' for the Best Original Song category in 2010. Rahman had won award in 2009 for his super hit composition 'Jai Ho' and created history by becoming the first Indian to win two Oscars. The 'Mozart of Madras' had struck gold at the 52nd Grammy Awards on 1st February 2010 by bagging two gramophones for his music in the Danny Boyle film 'Slumdog Millionaire' which had won eight Academy Awards in 2009.
American director Gregg Helvey's Hindi film 'Kavi' has been nominated in the Short Film category at the upcoming 82nd annual Academy Awards in 2010. The film produced by Guneet Monga, Harish Amin and Helvey deals with the issue of child labor. The story moves around a young boy who wants to play cricket and go to school but he is forced to work in a brick kiln. The film subtitled in English has won various awards at international festivals. The movie shot in just eight days budgeted for Rs 1.4 million.
