Superstar Salman Khan bagged the Pride of Nation Award in New Delhi on January 19, 2010. This is significant, as the nation will celebrate its Republic Day on 26th of this month. The All India Anti-Terrorist Front (AIATF) honored the actor and its chairman M.S.Bitta urged him to give away Veer Bravery Awards to those Indians who had showed extraordinary valor and courage in overcoming dangerous situations for others. Bitta admired the actor who had always stood like a rock as far as his unflinching faith in India's secularism is concerned. Everyone present among the large crowd cheered the actor. Salman Khan also promoted his forthcoming movie 'Veer', which is releasing coming Friday, January 22nd, 2010. Directed by Anil Sharma, 'Veer' is an epic saga and the tale of most valiant Pindaris, who fell victims to India's colonizer Britain's Divide and Rule policy. Besides Salman, the movie also stars Zarine Khan, Sohail Khan, Mitun Chakrborty and Jackie Shroff in key roles. Salman addressed the press conference and talked about his long cherished dream project 'Veer' and his co-star Zarine Khan.

The star expressed the pain he suffered during the shooting of the movie. He said he had to ride on the horse for 150 days and also had to wear very heavy costumes to play the coveted role. When asked why he took the risk of doing a period film - when period movies don't fare well at the box office, the actor said, working in a period film only shows the passion. The era of period sagas had emerged again with his movie in Bollywood, he added. Period movies are made with a heavy budget in comparison to Bollywood masala movies. And the recovery of the money is risky too. When asked if he asked the heroine of the movie to put on weight, Salman said, yes, it is true, as we want our heroine to look fit to give a perfect look. Women in olden times were a bit fat.

When asked whether he is committed in his personal life, the actor said, that is true, I am a committed person in my personal life also. "When I commit to someone, I stick to it, and some time it harms too." When asked about his expectation from the movie, the actor said, I've given my best and left it to the audience to judge my work. If the movie works, the credit will go to everybody, and if it doesn't, then I will take the blame. In the same breath, Salman said, real-life experience is very different and after witnessing the efforts made by the brave people, I have decided to join hands in the noble endeavor of helping the family members of the terrorist victims.

Ever since Aamir starrer 'Ghajini' made box office history, Salman Khan has decided to take a leaf out of his book and promote his movies in the same manner. Initially, Sallu was seen riding a horse for his forthcoming period saga 'Veer' at the Mahalakshmi Racecourse with the event aptly titled Veer Race with Salman Khan. The actor then promoted his film at the launch of the BSA Hercules India Cyclothon Mumbai 2010 and later became the guest of honor at the CID Gallantry Awards. Like Aamir and Shah Rukh, Sallu will not be doing too many films in a year. Incidentally, he has only signed his brother Arbaaz Khan's 'Dabaang' for now. The actor has been busy shooting for the film in Mumbai. While Aamir does one movie at a time, SRK also wishes to follow this pattern, it is learnt.
