Bipasha Basu will be seen in a new avatar in her forthcoming 'Pankh'. She plays an imaginary character in this movie directed by Sudipto Chattopadhyay. This is strange as Bips has earlier worked in a commercial film like 'Corporate' of Madhur Bhandarkar and now dons a supernatural character in 'Pankh'. She admits, "I play an alter ego. I am an imaginary character - the protagonist in the film is a 20-year old boy called Jerry, played by Maradona Rebello, who was recently seen in 'Race'. In 'Pankh', Maradona is totally confused about his gender because in his childhood, he played a female child.
Now, he has grown up and aspires to play a hero! So, he creates an imaginary character of his ladylove, supposed to be an actress. Bipasha plays that imaginary role for her protagonist (Maradona) in 'Pankh'. To seduce him, Bips sings a sensuous number (sung by Sunidhi Chauhan) titled 'Jiya Jala Na' in her new avatar. Bipasha says that she consented to do the role after just a one-line narration. The protagonist always imagines her to be a diva! Director, Sudipto Chattopadhyay, who has styled the actress' look in the song, says that this idea was executed by Rocky S and Gavin Miguel. Rocky wanted Bips to look like two divas - Sophia Loren and Liza Minelli from 'Cabaret'.

That's why Bipasha even cut her hair for the song, as the wig didn't fit her. Imaginary Bipasha completely undoes Jerry, which leads to the final catastrophe. She pushes him to fly and that's why the film is called 'Pankh' (Wings). The director says that Bips has a different look in every scene. So, Jerry is continuously disturbed and heaves a sigh of relief when he sexually fantasises about her, and makes love to her! Incidentally, Bipasha is also doing Rituparno Ghosh's Bengali film 'Shab Choritro Kalpanik' where she plays Prasenjit Chatterjee's wife who falls in love with her husband after his death. Has Bips moved to art-house cinema is a moot question?
