Big Bollywood flicks were awaiting the finish of IPL that commanded all attention cutting across age groups in India. Now that IPL is behind us, major movies are making it to the screen. Starting Friday, April 30, 2010, two movies were released - Jagmohan Mundhra’s ‘Chase’ and Sajid Khan’s ‘Housefull’. The former a suspense thriller, the latter is a comedy. Jagmohan Mundra seems lately to prefer quantity to quality. No other reason why this otherwise experienced former Hollywoodian would release two thrillers back to back - ‘Apartment’ on April 23rd followed by ‘Chase’ on the 30th. ‘Apartment’ lacked luster and Mundhra’s graph descended. Seems, as most in India complain, that Mundhra is concentrating on cheap quotient of low sex!

The ‘Chase’ story is too thin. That a hat ke (just different) filmmaker should be senselessly engaged is baffling. Reportedly, Mundhra descended on the ‘Chase’ script soon after ‘Apartment’ was complete. No coincidence that TV actor-turned-producer Anuj Saxena was looking for a ready but low budget script and lapped it up. Mundhra got Saxena’s consent and signed on Udita Goswami known for her bold sexy scenes, along with Tareena Patel though. Another coincidence that Mundhra signed on Aditya Raj Kapoor (already aged 45) son of legendary actor Shammi Kapoor for the lead role after meeting Aditya at a music launch! Good movies aren’t made like this!

Even if you lend some credence to a story, yet neither the movie nor the cast is properly chosen. The less said the better about the plot that stretches a very wide spectrum – from terrorism, corruption, romance, and patriotism to the builder mafia! A businessman kills a minister and is captured by an ex-army man-turned-nature photographer. Incidental as it can be, the photographer manages to film a video of the murder! Corrupt cops brand him a terrorist and the man ends up in a mental health resort. The photographer is played by Anuj Saxena and the two cops are Samir Kochhar and Rajesh Khattar.

Udita Goswami plays a nurse attending on him. Typical of B movie categories in the US, the nurse tries to prove the patient’s diagnosis wrong of being in a coma by stripping and dancing before him. Another strange sequence is that the photographer tries to forget his dead girlfriend – in the movie a TV reporter - played by Tareena Patel of the ‘ Dus Kahaniyaan’ fame. Udita uses sizzle to help Anuj forget Tareena.

Anuj fails as a producer and actor. He is unable to deliver dialogues. Mundhra is unreal as a director in that he presents his both leading ladies - one a nurse and the other a journalist - wearing revealing outfits. The plot is hardly that demanding! Udita seems to have hit the lowest ebb in this Mundhra flick. One could say the same for Tareena Patel. Sameer Kochar is wasted. Gulshan Grover looks funny, wearing outdated attire.

Overall, the movie fails! It might draw the audience that relishes the bold and sexy fill.
