Every now and then, we come across a hilarious movie. It's no longer a new trend. In fact, the audience's response to such movies is greater than the other genre ones. 'Atithi Tum Kab Jaoge?' falls in this category, and perhaps sets up a milestone. It's all the more important in India where an atithi (guest) is considered God, and deserves more attention than family members. This is another matter that the conditions are changing fast; in fact, the nuclear family is replacing the old joint family concept, especially in metropolises/ big towns.

And, an atithi (guest) is not welcome in a nuclear family. In these changed circumstances, 'Atithi Tum Kab Jaoge?' isn't a strange phenomenon. So, the movie doesn't surprise anyone. However, the movie's director Ashwini Dhir has presented the subject in a very loving way. Thus, it is the best family entertainer. Incidentally, it has a cast that is very well versed with this genre of films. Paresh Rawal is on top and so is Ajay Devgn. Both have proved their mettles in many a movie in the recent past.

According to the movie's story, Puneet played by Ajay Devgn and Munmun played by Konkona Sen Sharma is a happily married young couple living in Mumbai. However, their lives take a turn when a distant relative, Chachaji (uncle) played by Paresh Rawal, turns up unannounced at their doorstep from a far-off village. And, Chachaji, belonging to an old generation, befriends all around him and turns too popular, and therefore overstays. People from the neighborhood visit him too often and inconvenience the young family. Thus, the problem arises and the guest turns unwelcome to the young hosts, who lose their privacy. So, the hosts want to know when the guest would return his home. This is the meaning of the movie's title.

The movie runs on the bold shoulders of the three lead characters - Ajay Devgn, Konkona Sen Sharma and Paresh Rawal. All the three have performed as perfect as possible. Robin Bhatt and Tushar Hiranandani as writers have provided good enough material to the characters by narrating an emotional tale and giving it an equally good twist. Ashwini Dhir who is very well known for his laughter-riot movies has directed it so well that there is hardly any room left for criticism.

However, he seems to have added certain unnecessary incidents presumably to increase the movie's duration. For instance, the hosts shift to a hotel, seek police help and use the underworld help to get rid of their guest. This is beyond anyone's perception. Similarly, ugly ad embarrassing addictions of the guest though true could have been avoided. Music by Pritam is okay as far as the devotional songs are concerned. In fact, these songs act as the movie's USP. Cinematography by Asseem Bajaj is excellent. Satish Kaushik, Ajay, Akhilendra Mishra, Mukesh Tiwari Viju Khote and Sanjay Mishra in particular, lend full support to the lead characters in making the movie perfect.
