'Quick Gun Murugan' is based on a popular character created by Shashanka Ghosh and Rajesh Devraj for Channel V way back in the year 1994. In the movie, however, Murugan played by a senior Tamil actor Rajendra Prasad, is a dosa loving pure-vegetarian who is pitted against Rice Plate Reddy played by Naseer, who heads the McDosa Corporation and desires to make non-vegetarian dosas. Murgan is a sincere South Indian cowboy who considers it is his duty to serve and protect whereas his villain Rice Plate Reddy plans to create a machine-made, non-vegetarian dosa.
The movie revolves around Murugan's misadventures and his fight with his rival. So, both the hero as well as the villain is always at loggerheads. The fight is between vegetarian and non-vegetarian dishes. Reddy wants to make the best dosa and kidnap the women who have the perfect recipe for making delicious dosas. He begins from a small South Indian village to Swarglok and then finally to the cosmopolitan Mumbai. On the other hand, Murugan aided by Rambha playing Mango Dolly is successful in foiling the evil designs of Rice Plate Reddy! Thus, the movie is a kind of parody on Indian cinema of 70s.

Though the plot may be original but its script lacks substance and cohesiveness. That's why even otherwise enjoyable jokes fail to make an impact on the audience. Similar is the case in regard to the dialogues between Murugan's two ladies - Anu Menon playing Locket Lover and Mango Dolly. The storyline seems to be overcooked as it relates to dishes. The cinematography is over-blown. One more flaw is the overuse of Tamil in the movie. So, its audience might be limited to the Tamilians.

The movie has plus points too. Among them are its innovative subject and excellent performance by the cast. Every actor plays his or her part very well. Rajendra Prasad as Quick Gun Murugan and Naseer as Rice Plate Reddy perform excellently well. But for them the movie would have been insignificant. Murgan's favorite phrase 'Mind It' has gone very well at times. Rambha as Mango Dolly has also made strong comeback to the silver screen. Anu Menon as Locket Lover has done full justice to her character. Raju Sundaram as Rowdy MBA also plays a significant role. Apparently, the credit for the whole movie, especially its original subject and the right choice of cast, goes to director Shashanka Ghosh. Had there been not a fair of six movie releases this Friday, 'Quick Gun Murugan' might have fared much better.
