'Kidnap' is a movie that has been rightly titled. The name speaks about its theme. Though its stuff isn't new, yet it has a different way of conveying the story. The film starts with the depiction of the suffering of the hero during his jail term in the form of sketches; they show the hatred he has developed for the person who is responsible for all this.

The story revolves around a girl named Sonia (Minissha Lamba), who lives with her mother, Mallika (Vidya Malvade). Mallika lives with her mother, as she was ten years old when her parents got divorced. Kabir Sharma (Imran Khan) kidnaps her, only a few days before her birthday. Incidentally, the kidnapper is interested in talking only to her father, Vikrant Raina (Sanjay Dutt). Vikrant is rich, and the kidnapper wants to settle some old dues with him. The kidnapper also lays down rules to be followed by father Vikrant to get his daughter free from their clutches. Here, there is a twist in the story. The kidnapper gives Vikrant clues that will help him get closer to his daughter! This is to recall that she lives mother after their parents' divorce.

Strangely, the movie begins with a song, which bares Minissha Lamba in two-piece bikinis. Besides, she is seen throughout the movie in her sexy and seductive avatar. Sanjay Dutt (father) follows what the kidnapper tells him to do to get her daughter free and get closer to him. The USP of the movie seems to be extreme body and skin exposure of Minissha Lamba in her white transparent two-piece bikni throughout the movie. Wonder how Sanjay Gandhvi of the 'Dhoom' and 'Dhoom 2' fame could do it to sell it?

Yes, the director may justify that only this could attract Imran towards her. There are other lapses, too. Sanjay who owns cash worth $51 billion shows inability to fly to Panvel station at a given time to find the clue because he cannot afford a helicopter and instead robs other people's cars and bikes to reach his destination! When the father and the daughter meet they are shown in handcuffs. Why? Technically, the movie has come out very well. Its camera work is good and admirable. Even the deep-water scenes depicting Minissha in her bikni isn't a small deal. Similarly, the sequence shot in the jail is excellent.

From the acting point, Sanjay Dutt and Imran Khan have played their given roles very well. Imran has done very well though he plays here a villain (kidnapper). Vidya Malvade looks charming. The music of the film is average though few songs like Mit Jaaye, Hey Ya, Mausam are worth listening. Alas, Sanjay has flopped as director in just giving out a movie with a number of weaknesses, at least not expected from a person of his stature. As said earlier, the beginning of the movie is good, but the latter half is just a drag.
