Bollywood begins its festive season with the release of three movies -'Drona', 'Kidnap' and 'Ramchand Pakistani'. This time, the movies are being screened on Thursday instead of Friday. The industry wants to increase its collections by adding one more day to its weekend kitty. 'Drona' starring Abhishek Bachchan and Priyanka Chopra is the first co-production under the Eros Pictures banner.

This movie directed by Goldie Behl is crucial for the careers of the lead pair, and has therefore hit theaters with one hundred prints. 'Drona' is a big-budget film, which portrays Abhishek as a super hero. He plays the descendant of a sect that has devoted its life to the protection of a very important secret that could lead to devastating results if it falls into wrong hands. Kay Kay Menon plays the evil magician who wants to get hold of this secret while Priyanka Chopra plays a warrior who protects Drona.

The movie centers on a young man named Aditya played by Abhishek Bachchan. Aditya is unaware of his real identity and the destiny that awaits him. Ever since he was a child, a recurring nightmare haunted him. And when he woke up in fright, there was no one he could ever hold on to except for a magical blue rose petal that came wafting in the wind, never failing to make him smile through his tears! At the same time, an evil sorcerer, Riz Raizada (Kay Kay Menon), a descendant of the legendary demons, becomes impatient to obtain the precious secret.

The secret, which was the missing link, in his grand plan of taking over the universe. To get to the secret, he'd have to defeat Drona (Abhishek). One day, Aditya and Riz came face to face and Riz immediately recognized him as Drona. Aditya's destiny had caught up with him and his life was about to take him on a journey he had never imagined. Sonia (Priyanka Chopra), the leader of the cult, revealed Aditya's real identity to him. Baffled, Aditya found it all too hard to believe.

Having no time to lose, Sonia decides to take Aditya back to his place of birth, the ancient kingdom of Pratapgarh, where his mother, Queen Jayati Devi, would have all the answers to his questions. But before he could embrace his mother, Riz and his army of the darkest powers catch up with him. Aditya would now have to rise to the occasion and embrace his destiny. For the sake of mankind he would have to become the legendary warrior he was born to be. Thus began Drona's journey through myths and legends. Along with Sonia, he would fight the evil spells of the absolutely lethal Riz Raizada. By battling odds, he would discover skills that he never knew he had.

Acting-wise, Abhishek needs to concentrate on acting rather than on his image making. His role of Drone demanded much more than what he gives. Kay Kay Menon fails to maintain his past credential. Priyanka Chopra, who was banking on this movie to improve her career graph, will regret. Earlier, her big release 'Love Story 2050' and 'Chamku' had flopped. Goldie may note that big stars don't always succeed at the box office. The script and the skills of the artists are more important.

This will not be out of place to mention that Goldie has tried to fulfill his promise made years ago to his childhood friend Abhishek to make a movie with him. The same is true about its title. The movie was named 'Drona' to satisfy Abhishek's sister Sweta Nanda's long cherished ego. Thus, Goldie has succeeded in giving a handsome gift to the Bachchans who are very dear to him and his wife Sonali Bendre alias Behl. Since Sanjay Gandhvi's Kidnap' starring Sanjay Dutt, Imraan Khan and pretty Minissha Lamba, is there to compete the chances for 'Drona' seem to be bleak. Nandita starrer Pak movie 'Ramchand Pakistani' stands better.
