When Anand Rai failed to get the title of Yash Raj Films changed because of it being somewhat similar to his, he seems to have adopted another strategy to compete with them by releasing it simultaneously. That may be the reason for Anand Rai releasing his 'Thoda Life Thoda Magic' along with Yash Raj' Saif Ali Khan and Rani Mukherjee starrer 'Thoda Pyaar Thoda Magic', on Friday, June 27th, 2008, though Anand's movie was too small as compared to Yash Raj's big one.
Anyway, a movie's success depends on its content and not its title. And, this has been proved. While the media critics as well as the public has appreciated the Yash Raj movie, Anand's has fallen flat in this respect. What does the title of the movie say? Yes, it's crystal clear. The film, through its central character of MK, played by Jackie Shroff, gives the message that life can be magical.

According to the movie's story, Naina played by Meera Vasudevan looks like having a tense relationship with a satellite channel head Roshan played by Arbaaz Khan. So, she teams up with Siddharth (Sahil Chadha) for a television show, a kind of documentary on Mumbai. They hire a street wanderer MK (Jackie) for the job of an anchor. Jackie plays a distressed uncle on the show solving individual issues in the most incredible manner. Naina and Siddharth feel that MK is being misused though the latter seems to be indifferent to this since he seems to be suffering from some sickness. It's a pity that the director thinks that MK, a mentally unstable person, can change the lives of many people.

Presumably, Anand thinks that his title 'Thodi Life Thoda Magic' solves the problems facing the people. So, the movie attempts to trace the life of MK, who lives for the day and moment, but somehow transforms the lives of those who meet or interact with him through his philosophy. In this way, the director shows, that MK changes lives of Siddharth played by Saahil Chadha, Roshan played by Arbaaz Khan, Ashima played by Anita Raj and also Aditya played by Parmeet Sethi. That's MK's charisma and insight, which help these people rediscover the magic behind human emotions and the importance of relationships.

Analyzing the work of different departments of the movie, we find that Anand has failed everywhere. No story, no direction and no editing. Even Vinay Tiwari's music is just average. We pity Jackie and Arbaaz Khan for accepting the movie offer with no good script. The most pitiable is the one who goes to theater to watch the movie that fails to give him anything worthwhile.

Bollywood need to realize that it's no more confined to India or the neighboring nations; it is being watched all over the world for its growth and popularity. We need to raise the standard of our films before certifying them fit for exhibition. The Censor Board should also keep a track on the worthiness of a film's content. Why doesn't the director establish Naina's concerns and Siddharth's helplessness in the movie? Less said, the better.
