Love is not only inseparable but immortal as well and bounds together the two sexes until the final call from the Creator. This philosophy about the mystery of life is not easy to digest through thousands of texts. However, the debut director Ajay Devgan has made a marvelous attempt in his film 'U, Me Aur Hum' to feed the viewers' with an anecdote so as to have the feel of life, of course devoid of love, and without soul-mate.

The film poses a theory through a well- conceived story of a family that suffers from a continuous pain of separation between a wife- cum-patient of a serious disease, Alzheimer and the rest including her husband who leaves no stone unturned to keep the promise intact that he made with his wife before marriage and in course of love. Neither does Piya (Kajol) know that she is the victim of Alzheimer, nor does her husband Ajay Mehra (Ajay Devgan) about it before marrying her. Ajay while on a world cruise falls in love with Piya who happens to serve drinks on the cruise and marries her later.

In a cameo after the penultimate indeed that sends the viewers stunned almost Ajay who himself is a doctor treating mental patients takes Piya to his senior after a shocking incident of loss of memory while returning home from a mall and getting stranded. She is diagnosed with Alzheimer and the doctor advises Ajay to admit her in the ward as early as possible and abort the child before she realizes that she is pregnant which is going to cause more danger to her in her Alzheimer. But his conscience and commitment to his beloved makes him indecisive, which finally ends up in a deep trouble when Piya puts her baby in the bathing tub and runs on water tap and forgets.

She turns critical with developed Alzheimer, which is apparently visible in her abnormal behavior, and she is shifted to the ward immediately. The film continues in search of the ultimate or unconditional solace in a soul mate in the shape of better half (wife). Separation, even on forcible ground, has no place at all! To his wife, Piya, once, Ajay declares: hum saath marenge (We would die together). The film tends to prove through the pair that love relates to souls not to minds, matures through events of sorrow not happy moments. Ajay brings her back from mental hospital and decides to serve her with his own hands in order to get maximum love after admitting that it is not the question of you, and me rather it is hum (we) which constitutes love.

However, the film lacks deft editing and also suffers in terms of coherence. As a result, the viewers get confused, but overall the impact of Alzheimer keeps them intact to see the end. Ajay on the eve of 25th anniversary narrates his story to Piya in a restaurant. She gets her memory back and realizes that it was only a wife in her that motivated him to try for two hours to get her cured. She recollects everything before Ajay ends his story. This brings tears in their eyes. They have had a happy end because of their intense love for each other. Kajol indeed steals the show with her mature performances. The film has a lot for youth in terms of romance and excitement and a message as well that nothing can beat the power of pure love.

Music composed by Vishal Bharadwaj and choreography by Ganesh Acharya has been excellent as to attract the moviegoers. Screenplay by Robin Bhatt, Sutanu Gupta and Akarsh Khurana cast a spell on the audience. The rest of the cast hasn't left any stone unturned. Sumeet Raghavan fares very well. Divya Dutta has done full justice. Sachin Khedekar has also marked well. . Dialogues by Dheer touch one's heart. Of late, Ajay Devgan who himself is in the lead role seems to have realized that cinema goers are fed up with masala movies, and that's why he has made an attempt to pour in the philosophy of love by conceiving the idea of Alzheimer's disease. Though the disease is diagnosed only in the penultimate of the film but it adds enough punch leaving a lasting impression on the viewers.

Post Script: Kajol is breaved as her father Shomu Mukherjee, son of the famous Sasadhar Mukherjee, who founded Filmistan, expired early morning on Thursday. Shomu did not follow in the footsteps of his brothers, Joy and Debu, and took up an acting career. Instead, he went on to write, direct and produce films like 'Chhalia Babu', 'Ek Baar Muskura Do', 'Fifty Fifty', 'Sangdil Sanam', 'Pathar Ke Insaan', 'Lover Boy' and 'Nanha Shikhari' among others. He met Tanuja on the sets of 'Ek Baar Muskura Do' (1972). After a whirlwind romance, the duo got married in 1973 and had two daughters - Kajol and Tanisha. But their marriage was believed to be quite stormy and the two separated after some years. He was understandably very proud of his daughter, Kajol, when she made her filmi debut.
