    VIKRAM FINALLY GETS HIS GROOVE

Way back in 1999, a young model tried his luck in the film industry, with a film called 'Pyaar Mein Kabhi Kabhi'. He gave a nice performance that was quite befitting for a debutant. Seven years have passed by; his then girlfriend Bipasha Basu is now among the top five heroines of the industry. The model I am talking about is Dino Morea. If he has traveled so far in the industry, it is because of his guts and will to better himself.

Film after film, the boy has been working hard and those who have seen some of his last films like 'Tom Dick & Harry', 'Fight Club' and 'Holiday', will admit that Dino has come of his age and can justify any role that he is offered today. Dino might be slightly unlucky in his career because despite giving a super duper hit in his second film 'Raaz', he couldn't cash upon the opportunity.

Today, talks of making a sequel to this film are in the air, but Dino isn't sure if he would get an offer. This industry unfortunately leans on flattery and false emotions and those who work from the core of their heart find it hard to prosper. Dino has over the years adjusted himself in doing mutistarrer but his new film 'Life Mien Kabhie Kabhie' despite having several other faces presents Dino as the single matured actor. There are some fine performances as well from other actors but if any actor benefits most from 'Life Mien Kabhie Kabhie', it's Dino.

'Life Mien Kabhie Kabhie' treads on a path that has become a kind of fashion in Hindi film industry now. Weaving separate stories into one film and trying to bring them to a common end have been the films like 'Salaam-E-Ishq', 'Honeymoon Travels Private Limited', and 'Hattrick' besides several others. But 'Life Mein Kabhie Kabhie' stands apart among them. This film tries to find answers to those questions which have been prevailing since the attraction shifted towards youth.

How the younger generation competes with today's world and system is the core of 'Life Mien Kabhie Kabhie'. Director Vikram Bhatt has been off the track in his last few films but this time he attempts something serious. The film may look a bubbly and romantic kind of goody, goody film, but there lies a feel that is more real and touches your heart instantly.

It is the story of five friends who depart with a promise to meet again in life after five years and discuss what happiness meant to them. These friends are Manish, Rajiv, Jai, Mona and Ishita (played by Aftab, Dino, Sameer Dattani, Nauheed and Anjori Alagh, respectively). All these friends pass through different phases in life. Everyone defines happiness according to his or her conviction. However, something here or there goes missing in their life.

Vikram Bhatt while choosing to make a film on this subject must have done a lot of brain- storming. His writer Manoj Tyagi is a good wordsmith and what these two hatched is definitely not your run of the mill story of Bollywood. During this year the viewers haven't been at ease while watching films that move around several stories. But 'Life Mein Kabhie Kabhie' comes out a winner at least in its format. The film takes five different paths; some more characters move in and it spreads horizontally. Anjori joins hands with Raj Zutshi. Dino faces Mohnish Behl and Ekta while Aftab Shivdasani lands in the hands of Koel Puri. Sameer Dattani's track takes an altogether different line.

Judging so many actors in so many characters becomes an arduous task for a critic. One tries to score over the other and when one starts comparing the two, two more pop in. And, it's here that the film starts losing its ground. In his attempt to give every character equal importance Vikram ends in neglecting some good tracks. Dino's character could have been the pivotal point for the film but Vikram moves to others though after giving him a solid start.

Technically, the film is strong and Lalit Pandit after separating from his brother Jatin shows his caliber in his debut solo film. The film's theme song 'Hum Khushi Ki Chah Mein' is the perfect number for this kind of film and lyricist Sameer has opened his heart in writing these lines for the song. Cinematography is once again taken care of by Vikram's father Pravin Bhatt while dialogues by Girish Dhamija support the narration aptly.

Among actors, Dino gets ten out of ten. He is above all. He is the pillar of the film and Anju Sawhney and Nauheed support him aptly. Anjori Alagh, daughter of famous small screen actress Maya Alagh, makes her debut in Bollywood with 'Life Mein Kabhie Kabhie' and it will surely set pace for her. She is good looking and hard working. Given some good roles, she can easily fill the void for new faces in Bollywood. On the whole, 'Life Mein Kabhie Kabhie' is a good movie to watch; the only problem with it is that it lacks face value.
