BAG Films is a Delhi-based production house that can boast of producing many journalists who are presently working in different channels of India. The production house run by Anurradha Prasad, a female media tycoon has now grown bigger by entering into films. It's an arena where one's neck is always at guillotine. Since Anuradha is a woman, it is obvious to be attached with a woman director who has not seen a hit for years. Director Tanuja Chandra must have narrated the story of 'Zindaggi Rocks' to Anurradha in a way that she could have taken out her handkerchief to wipe her tears. And, believe me it can be true because the story of the film has the power to move people.

A rock star giving her heart for her adopted son to save his life! The story of 'Zindaggi Rocks' can move even the most stonehearted person. Then, Tanuja and Anurradha decide to rope in a star who is willing to go to do any role that will put her in the bracket of an actor. Who else it could be Sushmita Sen only. It's a fact that women oriented subjects very rarely work in Hindi cinema. That's why at the outset it looks like an all-woman project.

The credit rolls go and the story sets in. The very first song establishes Kria (Sushmita Sen) as a happening rock star. It is well picturised in Capitol Cinema and SNDT College of Mumbai. Then suddenly Tanuja decides to take the song indoor and with that comes a definite feeling that she is more into facade than the real ones. A rock star is never established and before establishing her lead character Tanuja Chandra (she also writes the story) makes her fall in love with Dr. Suraj Rehan (Shiney Ahuja).

Suraj has a painful past because his wife has been lying in coma for years. Kria doesn't know this and when she comes to know, she is shattered. But, being matured persons Kria and Suraj resolve the issue and move ahead in the life loving each other. Kria finds that her adopted son falls sick, and needs a heart transplant. Sush (Kria) looks up to Suraj who is dead against Kria's wish to donate her heart to her son. The trauma grows and viewers find themselves alienated. Tanuja decides to hide it and reveals it towards the end. But, by the time she builds up the climax it is too late; Suraj loses the battle as Kria ends her life to save a child whom she loved like her own son.

'Zindaggi Rocks' is a lifetime opportunity wasted by Tanuja Chandra. She has handled intricate subjects in the past. If her 'Dushman' was a great film, 'Sangharsh' put a doom on her career. She could have once again got the limelight only if she had handled this film more sincerely. Look at the fact that she presents Sushmita as a rock star but except for few seconds in the opening song, she is no where shown performing on stage. Only time we see her singing is either in some bar of a hotel or at a show during a party.

Then she also fails to build up the emotional quotient between Kria and her son. It takes a lot of heart to die for some one else and it happens only if you love some one more than you. And, it is shown by action and not in narration, at least in Hindi films. The Sengupta family (including Moushami Chatterjee in double role) is a very badly written track in the film. It never helps to build a story. Tanuja Chandra also fails in making plot points. Her scene division and shot description have gone haywire. She does manage to get a good producer who has spent millions be it for music of the film or in assembling a good technical team, but she fails to live up to the expectations.

Technically, 'Zindaggi Rocks' is not a very bad film but it fails at the thought level. Anu Malik has given at least two good songs, namely 'Aisi Ki Taisi...' and 'Paas Aao..'. Farah Khan has exceptionally choreographed the first song. Lyrics are also very good. Mudassar Aziz as a dialogue writer impresses at places, especially in the dialogue where Suraj tells Kria as to how it feels when one has to console a person who is crying for not her own pain .

Among actors, Sushmita Sen could have impressed more if she were the natural one. Tanuja makes her act and it looks on the screen that Sushmita Sen is acting. After 'Samay' and 'Chingari', it was Sushmita's third chance to establish herself as an actor, but once again she put herself in wrong hands. However, Shiney Ahuja shines once again. He is a star material, and behaves like that as he has grown from 'Hazaron Khwahishen Aisi'. The supporting cast is the most irritating one except Ravi Gosain. Kim Sharma and Moushami Chatterjee are good actors but even they will like to forget thier performances in this film. On the whole, 'Zindaggi Rocks' doesn't really rock. This movie will put even BAG films in an awkward situation, where it will think twice before making the second film.
