As the real life pairs are made in heaven, so are the pairs in the Hindi cinema made in hell. Yes, in most of the films that you see these days, there is no synch with present day life. Film producers and directors seem to be living in a totally different world; a world where reality is farce and emotions are artificial. Gone are the days when we used to watch Hrishikesh Mukherjee's films. Today's directors make films based on characters having supernatural powers; they have forgotten the common man's suffering for lack of simple powers.

In such a scenario, 'Khosla Ka Ghosla' is like fresh air. Only a debutant producer and a debutant director, who has remained untouched by today's directors, can attempt such a film. 'Khosla Ka Ghosla' is a comedy but not like the ones we have witnessed in the distant past. This is poles apart from films like 'Phir Hera Pheri', 'Golmaal' or 'Tom Dick and Harry. 'Khosla Ka Ghosla' has everything that a family looks for; a good story and make believe characters that connect with everyone. It is the story of a clash between the mighty and the helpless; this is nearer to the genre that is on the verge of the extinction post 'Jane Bhi Do Yaaron'.

'Khosla Ka Ghosla' is set in national capital ( New Delhi ) and the very start is hilarious where a 57-year-old man Kamal Kishore Khosla (Anupam Kher) who is on the brink of the retirement and struggling hard to build a home in the posh area of the city , dreams of his death. He gets up every morning with gastric problem as his wife (Kiran Juneja) cooks Rajmah every night for him. The elder son (Ranvir) is unemployed whereas the younger son (Pravin Dabbas) is planning to shift to America as he isn't too happy with his name Chirounji Lal Khurana.

He not only wishes to change his name but also wants to quit this chaotic city. Chirounji Lal or Cherry as he is often called also has a girl friend (Tara Sharma) who loves him a lot. Khosla senior purchases a plot in south Delhi and spends the entire money that he has collected over the years; however, he is shocked to know on the day of Bhumi Pujan that a builder named Khurana (Boman Irani) has grabbed his plot. Khosla applies every legal means to get his plot back but fails.

And, then Cherry is advised by his visa agent (Vinay) to try something else. They hatch a plan that requires guts and a thorough planning. They want to teach Khurana a lesson but Mr. Khosla ducks at the eleventh hour. Will he ever get his plot back? What if Khurana comes to know about the plot? And what happens when all the drama people lined up for acting in the plot leave for their show in Bangalore? 'Khosla Ka Ghosla' has everything that will keep your interest intact till the last reel of the film.

Kudos to director Dibakar Banerjee, who dared start his film career with a film like this! Dibakar just had one good story to support his film in the beginning but as luck favors the brave, Boman Irani's new found status would certainly help the film. Boman who is last seen in 'Lage Raho Munna Bhai' as builder Lucky Singh continues with his charm in this film as builder Khurana. But, it is not the cast but the plot that entertains you to the hilt. The very first scene of the film where a daughter is more worried about her matching outfit than her father's death and where a son is more interested in his office work than arranging his father's funeral sets the motion from the world go.

Similarly, the scenes displaying Khosla's pain and his visit to the senior police officer that consoles him initially but ends up by seeking a bribe are brilliantly filmed. The crux of the film is drama that Cherry and his team builds up to fool Khurana. His visit to the so-called land of N R I businessman Sethi is one of the best comedy scenes Hindi Cinema has witnessed over the years. And, all this has been possible because director Dibakar Banerjee had a producer like Savita Raj Hira Seth behind him.

'Khosla Ka Ghosla' is also a benchmark for persons like Pravin Dabbas, Tara Sharma, Ranvir and Vinay; all of them have performed better than expected. The team parallels with the cast of 'Jaane Bhi Do Yaaron' in every way. Boman Irani is perfect for the role. But, all this is because of a good story that is written by none other than now very famous Jaideep Sahni. He also doubles up as lyricist of the film, and mind you, because these songs are going to attract you.

Adnan Sami and Kailash Kher's voices support the themes very well again, this is the director's farsightedness that he uses songs just in the background of the narration and stays away from making his real life character look filmy. Bappi Tutul and Dhruv Bhalla have shown immense potential as music directors. The film also has some weak points ; the film looks stale at places, maybe because of poor cinematography or the raw stock used for the shooting. But, never mind these faults, the 'Jaane Bhi Do Yaaron' genre is back.
