'Malamaal Weekly' and 'Jigyaasa' are the two unequal movies released this Friday. The former is a top class comedy made by director Priyadarshan just after his last three comedies - 'Hera Pheri', 'Hulchul' and 'Garam Masala'. 'Malamaal Weekly' is about the struggles and survival of people in a small town. Plagued by poverty, bad harvests and a monster of a moneylender called Karamkali (Sudha Chandran), the people in this town are barely able to make both ends.

The movie revolves around Lilaram (Paresh Rawal), one of the town's inhabitants, earns a meager source of income through his business of selling Malamaal Weekly Lottery tickets. One day, while watching TV at a local tea stall, he learns that one of the tickets he had sold has in fact won the ten million rupees bumper prize.

As most of the other villagers don't own a TV and are illiterate, Lilaram knows that he is privy to this information. The question is how to find that one ticket from the 105 he's sold. An idea hits him! Lilaram throws a party: a virtual festivity for the people who are fighting to survive. Lilaram, already debt-ridden, manages to host this party at the expense of his one last asset - his goat kid, who is treated like a child by Lilaram's wife!!

Now, the party is only for his 105 customers on the condition that they bring along their tickets as an invite to the celebrations. As luck would have it, all turn up except one -- Anthony, the drunkard. Lilaram decides to pay him a visit. On reaching Anthony's house, he finds Anthony dead in front of the TV!! Too shocked on hearing about his victory Anthony is dead with the lottery ticket still in his hand!

What follows from thereon is a roller coaster ride of unusual events with surprising twists and turns at every stage. Extremely funny situations and hilarious circumstances lead to a culmination of a laugh riot climax which reveals the Malamaal Weekly Lottery winners... or losers! The movie has other star casts too like Arbaaz Khan who is playing the role of Lottery inspector Jayesh Agarwal.

Ompuri is playing the role of Ballu a milkman who earns his livelihood by selling milk and get extra money by adding water to the milk. He has a daughter Sukhmani (Reemi Sen) who loves with Kanhaiya (Ritesh Deshmukh), who works with Ballu as his servant. He earns only abuses in return from Ballu but still hopes to marry with Sukhmani.

This time Priyadarshan may get the negative response from the audiences. There are many reasons though. First, the movie is released when the exams are going on. Children who form the larger part of the audience for Priyadarshan's movies are not able to watch it. Second, another reason behind the failure of this movie is the publicity part. This time Priyadarshan didn't take interest in the publicity part.

So, the movie didn't reach the mass. The movie may click later but as of now Priyadarshan needs to wait and watch. We wonder if Priyadarshan is happy with the movie as he has failed to sign his favorite stars like Rimi Sen and Akshay Kumar in it. Instead, he got Arbaaz Khan and Reema to replace them. So is missing Suniel Shetty, his buddy. However, Priyadarshan managed to rope in his three favorite comedians - Paresh Rawal, Om Puri and Asrani - though after a long wait.

Regarding the performances of the stars, Paresh Rawal, the sure name in the Priyadarshan's movies, has done his job up to the mark. Arbaaz, Ritesh, Om Puri and Rajpal Yadav have tried their best too. But, the whole credit is taken by Paresh. Priyadarshan has given more footage to Paresh in comparison to others.
