Is 'Aisa Kyon Hota Hai' good enough to spend three hours in cinema halls? First thing first. The answer is a big no. It may be a shocking reply for viewers who have been waiting for the film since they saw the filmmaker's last movie made on AIDS. The lesson Bollywood should learn is that it's not the hype that helps a film succeed, but it is the content as the content is the king. However, a filmmaker like Ajay Kanchan fails to understand that a three-hour film can't be done by placing sex flick songs in it.
'Aisa Kyon Hota Hai' is a heartbreaking saga of the illegitimate son (Aryan Vaid) that glorifies the evils of incurable ailment - AIDS. Renowned filmmaker Mahesh Bhatt has rendered his creative skill in scripting this film. Besides, he has also given a guest appearance. This emotional and socially relevant film is a presentation by Roman Catholic Church in the Bollywood arena. With a string of flops that primarily include sex flicks like 'Sauda', 'Chahat', 'Market' etc., Aryan Vaid has been unsuccessful so far. This film is an add on to his earlier flops in his sagging career. Ajay Kanchan directs this film after conceiving many documentaries with a new bunch of promising acting talents. Model-turned- actor Aryan Vaid plays the lead role who does not stick to one partner because of which he contracts the HIV virus. Rati Agnihotri plays the role of a mother, who symbolizes loyalty, commitment and trust in a relationship. But life treats her rather ruthlessly. By the time, she discovers that she has been cheated in her marriage, she is already pregnant. Instead of aborting the baby and thinking of remarriage, she gives birth to her child and dedicates her entire life to bringing him up all alone. However, in order to retain her self-esteem, she never reveals to the child who his father is. The child (Aryan Vaid) grows up with the feeling that he is illegitimate that's why the mother doesn't tell him who his father is. Instead of believing in love and having a committed relationship, he indulges in lust without realizing the perils of his behavior. The mother goes through the agony of witnessing that her only child has tested positive for HIV. She even pays with her life while saving the life of a girl belonging to other community in a communally charged atmosphere. It is now for her son to make sure that the sacrifice that she has made does not go in vain. And this is the mission in the movie.
Rati Agnihotri delivers penchant performance in the role of a sacrificing mother. 'Aisa Kyon Hota Hai' will be an acid test for debutante actors that include Megha Chatterjee, Mehul Bhojak and Shruti Mehrotra. Tauseef Akhtar is the new musical composer. Eminent lyricist Sayed Quadri along with new lyricists -- Paayem Saeedi, Tauseef Akhtar -- has scripted soundtracks that range from sentimental to peppy lyrics.
'Aisa Kyon Hota Hai' highlights the miseries of the protagonist. This theme is impressive but isn't penetrative enough to create any emotional stir. The movie fails to grab viewers' attention as it has no continuity as the story deviates from the original theme of aids awareness and portrays more of anti-social elements like Hindu- Muslim riots.
The desire and thrust of sexual wickedness overshadows the storyline. It seems as if the first half of the movie is a compilation of music videos having six songs in the same. The excess of spicy flavor categorizes it to be sleazier remix stuff than entertainment with a message. The mindset of his characters change only in the post-interval part and by that time the narration gets so juxtaposed -- traveling from the present to the past and then back to the present that the viewers find themselves taken for a ride.
Newcomers are disappointing as their acting is completely avoidable. After some novice acting experiences it's time for experienced campaigners like Rati Agnihotri to prove their worth. Sayeed Quadri's lyrics are meaningfully appropriate and should gel well with the script. Tauseef Akhtar's soft and tender musical arrangements are harmonious with effective vocals of Alka Yagnik.
'Aisa Kyon Hota Hai' offers no storyline that can promise outstanding success for the film. Director Ajay Kanchan has failed to make a mark with this move. It's a low scoring movie all the way! 'Aisa Kyon Hota Hai' is the thought of the viewer after seeing the movie. The movie being an average has chances of failing at the box office.
