A television channel after achieving success in soaps, decides to make a real life tele film. It selects marriage as the subject. It approaches a Joshi family in Mumbai, which is solemnizing a marriage in the family. But the conservative Joshis turn down the request for recording the marriage on camera and televising the program later.
But, first time director Asmi Gantara played by Juhi Chawala has not given up hope to telecast the wedding live. The youngest son in the family is Manoj. He is unemployed but is good hearted. Asmi knows that he has fallen for her. She takes full advantage of his weakness for her.

Though the bride's father is willing to allow the channel to shoot the auspicious occasion, the family's head rejects the request. Manoj played by Irrfan Khan is the bride's youngest uncle. Knowing well that her career will be in jeopardy, if the assignment is not completed, Asmi strikes a deal with Manoj.

He accepts the proposal and allows her unit to install a multi-camera set up secretly outside the house of the Joshis. He realizes to his horror that he has allowed the opening of a Pandora's box as the real characters of the family are being recoded on camera. A skeleton after a skeleton comes out to the dismay of Manoj.

The channel is happy with the masala it got. Its TRP rating goes up overnight. Manjoj was shocked when it records secret love affairs of Piya played by Chahat Khanna. Piya is his dearest niece. It is the most shocking secret recorded by the channel; one has to sit through the film to see the reaction of Manoj and the TV crew headed by Asmi.

After many days, viewers will re-discover Juhi Chawla as a talented actress. She had almost been written off after arrival of new faces in Bollywood. She has acted very well in this movie. The audience will remember her performance in the film as the director of the show.

Irfan Khan as Manoj Joshi has also done justice to his role. They are ably supported by Chat Khanna (Piya Joshi), Mahesh Joshi ((Srivallabh Vyaaa), Suresh Joshi (Anang Desai), Rati Pant (Neena Kulkarni), Nilam Joshi (Madhavi Chopra), Shekhar Joshi (Lalit Tiwari) and Raveena (Mainni De).

Isshaan Trivedi directs the film, an alumni of the National School of Drama. He specializes in direction. After composing dialogues for 'Ghulam' and 'Socha Na Tha', he has directed '7.1/2 Phere'. His debut film is likely to be appreciated by the audience for a good story with melodious music by Shantanu Moitra and excellent cinematography by Attar Singh Saini. After 'Parineeta' and 'Yahaan', he has provided, soulful music in '7-1/2 Phere'. He is a new talent to be watched in Bollywood.

A few words about producer Nimit Modawal, Harshvardhan and Sonal Modawal. They just call the venture a fantasy or realization of a dream. Nimit Modwal is a commercial pilot, a lucrative profession. He has ventured into the film world to pursue a dream. Without the blessing of a godfather and no connection in the film industry, the three have successfully made the film.
