Good! Bad!! Ugly!!! Bollywood's contemporary sex flicks seem to be breathing their last as one visualizes 'Chetna - The Excitement'. The sorry tale of disastrous flops continues to rise, as the success rate of sex flicks is at an all- time low. Last week it was Mallika's sensuous act in 'Bachke Rehna Re Baba' that failed to capture audiences. This week another sex siren Payal Rohtagi tries to woo audiences with her physical assets. The result is almost the same. Sex flicks are turning losing prepositions for filmmakers. 'Chetna' has no competition with SRK's 'Paheli' in terms of quality, substance, talent or credibility. This film falls in the marquee of films that come out with no expectation, and sinks without trace. It's pity that eminent director like Partho Ghosh has succumbed to pressures of the present scenario by riding on the sex wave.

Partho Ghosh looks like a loser. Inept and absurd script, inexpressive performances and pathetic music tell the dismal story of loosely conceived 'Chetna - The Excitement'. The title looks illogical and it's difficult to correlate the word "the excitement" with the title character 'Chetna'. The film fails to bind audience as it lacks continuity. The film takes its heart and soul from Hollywood super hit 'Disclosure' and its Bollywood version 'Aitraaz'. Payal Rohtagi's character of 'Chetna' has similarity to that of Priyanka Chopra's character of Sonia in 'Aitraaz'. The basic difference lies in the treatment of the similar subject. Priyanka comes out as winner, but Payal shows no such promise. The film comes out with the concept of woman seduction and invading institution of marriage. In a hot pursuit to make things happen she uses her power, position and money. The film glorifies sexual harassment at the working place and this time woman rules the show. The script is so weak and narration so boring that the viewer can easily anticipate its climax.

The film centers on rich, powerful, enigmatic female business magnate Chetna (Payal Rohtagi). Chetna heads powerful business empire in Dubai that makes her a newsmaker of the town. She has a competitor in Mr Mittal (Kiran Kumar), another business tycoon with big empire. Chetna shows her dominance over Mittal's business regime. The scenario shifts to Mumbai where an aspiring business marketing executive Sameer (Jatin Grewal) marries his sweetheart Aastha (Navneet Kaur). Sameer gets job opportunity in Chetna's company and he along with Aastha shifts to Dubai. Chetna gets enticed by Sameer's immaculate charm and talent, and promotes him. Then, the game of attraction, seduction and lust begins as Chetna seduces Sameer. Initially, Sameer says no to her but compromises later. Aastha loses her cool as she discovers her husband's infidelity. In order to teach Chetna a lesson, she joins Mittal's office. Aastha's intelligence and shrewdness show results and Mittal's company comes close to Chetna's in competition. The failure infuriates Chetna and she decides to physically eliminate Aastha, but fails. The evil plans of Chetna are exposed and she commits suicide.

The plot and climax are insipid and predictable. The characterization is half-baked. The music lacks the grip to hold the situation. Partho Ghosh's filming comes out to be his weakest presentation. Ghosh has earlier given hits like 'Agnisakshi' and '100 Days'. The director has shared special on screen chemistry with Nana Patekar in films like 'Agnisakshi', 'Ghulam-e-Mustafa' and 'Yugpurush'. 'Chetna- The Excitement' is his first presentation that is based on sexual and physical relations. Unfortunately, Partho Ghosh's last two films 'Surya' (2003) and 'Maseeha' (2002) were complete washouts and no big claims can be made for this skin flick.

Payal Rohtagi is the name that epitomizes heaps of skin show with loads of kissing and bed scenes. Payal's journey into filmdom has been largely dominated by skin flicks like 'Laila- A Mystery', 'Tauba Tauba', 'Fun- can be dangerous' etc. Whatever may be title of the film, the subject and the concept remain the same, and 'Chetna' is no exception. Payal exudes her physical anatomy in the art of seduction and deceit, but lacks screen presence. Her dialogue delivery lacks the gripping. Weak characterizations make things worse and as the plot thickens Payal's dialogues sound absurd. Newcomer Jatin Grewal has the perfect model look as he has endorsed dozens of products, but he needs grooming in acting.

He looks wasted in a female-oriented sex flick. Meghna Naidu and Shawar Ali were initially signed for the lead roles but it could not materialize. It paved way for Jatin Grewal but least can be expected from this handsome hunk. South Indian starlet Navneet Kaur makes her first impression in Bollywood as "pativrata" Indian wife. Vasundhra Das and a Pakistani actress were earlier considered for this role. Navneet hams and overacts in emotional scenes. She lacks the panache of making it big in the tinsel town. Her fat and plump looks hardly attract viewers and the poor diction makes it even worse.

Kiran Kumar looks competitive in the supporting role and acts well. Yunus Sajawal's story and screenplay are weird and inexpressive. Dialogues too lack the tenacity to bind audiences for two hours. Akram Khan's cinematography captures the urban beauty of Dubai. Posh shopping mall and well furnished office complexes shows authenticity with the script. Daboo Malik's music is pathetic and boring. Just one song "Tum Aaj Mile Ho" shows some promise while others sound like leftover from the composer's desk. 'Chetna' might get average response from frontbenchers for its subject and contents, but it comes out as a big disappointment for movie buffs.
