Much awaited 'Nazar' produced by Mukesh Bhatt has been simultaneously premiered in India and Pakistan. It is also likely to be the first Indian movie to be telecast on Pakistan TV. The Hindi movie is about a successful dancer played by Pakistani actress Meera. She has made her debut in the Bollywood film. In her first assignment as director, Soni Razdan has proved that she will be a filmmaker to be reckoned with in the Hindi filmdom.

It will not be wrong on the part of the moviegoers to come to the conclusion after viewing 'Nazar' that she has done an excellent movie with almost unknown actors. The storyline, music and cinematography all are good. Plus doing the entire shooting has been done in the country.

Divya Varman (Meera) a successful singer and dancer is haunted by memories of the tragic car accident that left her orphaned in her childhood. It has left a deep scar in her psyche. Her life undergoes a dramatic change on a night when she is driving back home after a performance. She finds the body of a murdered woman lying on the roadside. Divya stops her car and comes near the body. To her utter surprise, the body pleads with her for help.

She is at a loss and does not know what to do. She faints. Policemen come. They take up the body for postmortem. They also help Divya regain consciousness. She comes back home. She sees young women being murdered with a scalpel. Nobody takes her seriously when she narrates. Her doctor who is in love with her says he has become a mental patient. The police do not trust the story narrated by her saying that she is not mentally balanced.

Rohan, a young police officer, takes her seriously and starts investigation despite protest by his colleague Sujata. He is a brunt out cop played by Ashmit Patel. He has almost become inactive after a serial killer killed his pregnant girl friend before he is nabbed by him. The story ends after the real killers are found.

Sujata played by Koel Purie has done a splendid job. She loves Rohan. But he is not interested in her. Performance of Koel Purie as a police officer and jilted lover is worth mentioning. And Meera? She is destined to have a place in Bollywood because of her shapely body and talents. About her much- hyped semi-nude body and kisses in 'Nazar' she says, " I am prepared to go to any length for a good movie. But there will a Lakshman Rekha (limit)."

One is convinced about her intention after sitting through the movie. Up and coming Ashmit Patel has got a new look in the movie. He has acted well and is assured of a place among the youngsters struggling for a foothold in the competitive Bollywood.

Anu Malik is the music director. His background music and item songs deserve to be mentioned. Perhaps after many years, it is a Hindi movie, which has been shot entirely without any foreign locations. Cinematographer Ansuman Mahally has demonstrated what can be achieved with his camera for the viewers
