When destiny has nothing new to offer and all that glitters is not gold, the history repeats itself. To return with the history this time is none other than Bollywood's pet dada Mithun Chakraborty. After, a much talked about role in Vikram Bhatt's 'Elaan', he is back again in a villainous role this time for one of his mentors B. Subhash. It was B. Subhash' film 'Disco Dancer' that made Mithun darling of millions across the nation and abroad too (He was the most popular Indian film star in Russia at that time after Raj Kapoor). Both, Mithun and B. Subhash, have been out of focus for some years. Mithun has been living and running hotel business while B. Subhash has kept a low profile after delivering several average or below average films like 'Kasam Paida Karne Wale Ki', 'Tarzan', 'Aandhi Toofan', 'Dance Dance', 'Aaj Ke Angarey', 'Commando', 'Love Love Love' and others.
Now, director B. Subhash wants to recapture his lost ground with the help of his loyal soldier though this soldier has changed side this time. Before Mithun, many actors like Shatrughan Sinha and Vinod Khanna started their careers as a villain and changed to be hero while actors like Kiran Kumar started as hero and when their glamour faded they changed to be successful villains. B. Subhash meets Mithun Chakraborty along with his long time associate Bappi Lahiri in this week's release 'Classic- Dance Of Love'. The film has been promoted as a sex movie in its promos with the 'Kalion Ka Chaman' fame Meghna Naidu ready to shred clothes in every scene.

'Classic--Dance Of Love' is basically a take on on the practices of modern age gurus. Dr. Ram Gopal Acharya (Mithun Chakraborty) is also one of them. He is known as a philosopher who heavily takes his lessons from Indian mythology. He preaches to people that they should never fall prey to temptations and lust. The story takes a turn from here and in comes Doli (Meghna Naidu) who is a bar dancer. Boys are ready to die for her while she dreams of his right man to be some one from outside this dark world. The dream man comes from overseas; a London based NRI Suraj (Vikas Bhardwaj). He comes to India on a business tour. Doli's beauty and her physique smite him and they both fall in love.

However, Vikas's father seeks Dr. Acharya's help to keep Doli away from his son. The guru charges Doli of trying to enter the millionaire family. Doli is not ready to face this trauma and decides to bid adieu to this so-called educated world. She returns to her place but the destiny doesn't leave her. Dr. Acharya manages to bring Doli to his ashram. But this can prove fatal as Doli is not a simpleton and she knows the power of her beauty. Doli's plan goes haywire in between when Acharya ties to play smarter than her. The news reaches to Suraj and he too gets entangled in the game of lust being played in the ashram. The story has plenty of sex and a lot of skin show; all that started with films like 'Khwahish', 'Jism' and continued till 'Murder', 'Hawas' and 'Julie'.

So, is the 'Classic- Dance Of Love' another sex film loaded with a lot of oomph? The answer is yes. To see Mithun Chakraborty as a lecherous modern age guru is in bad taste for his fans. It is true that there is dearth of strong character artistes, but Mithun can also play positive character roles. Maybe the darker side of the life has become more attractive for him. Thus, we see 'darling of millions' actually go to ruin dreams of this young couple.

Mithun has always done Hamm acting even when he was at top, but then it was taken as a style, and nothing more. The only other actor that draws attraction is leading lady Meghna Naidu. No doubt she has improved a lot from his last film 'Hawas', but the progress is not meaty enough. She may have a great figure but she lacks the 'charisma'. Moreover, heroines of sex films do not have a longer screen life. Even a gorgeous and ravishing Bipasha has to look for other options now. So, has been the case with Neha Dhupia and Mallika Sehrawat, both one film wonders. Navin Nischol has not much to do. His son, Vikas Bhardwaj too looks just like a prop in scenes where he is with voluptuous Meghna Naidu.

Having made films like 'Tarzan' and 'Divine Lovers', B. Subhash has a definite liking for erotic films. Even when he was not making erotica films, his heroines were seen in bikini and dancing in minimal clothes. In 'Classic- Dance Of Love', B. Subhash has tried to ride on the wave of sex. But he fails to get right cast for the film. Mithun may have repaid his obligation by being part of this film though. The biggest drawback of the film is its story that has nothing exciting to offer. Technical aspects too do not have much to talk about. The same is true about the music of the film. Bappi Lahiri has been away from the mainstream music for long and seems to have lost grip on the young generation of today. Better luck next time (?) Bappi, Subhash and Mithun Da !
