Do you know why Bollywood films have so many songs? The most logical answer is that they don't have a story line. Had there not been song and dance situations in Hindi films almost two third films would have never been made? While some directors attain mastery by including a song after every 10 minutes, some end up making it a Chitrahar (the first filmi songs countdown show on Indian television). 'Kaun Hai Jo Sapno Mein Aaya' falls into the second category. Despite the fact that the film has been released in a very low-key manner, there was curiosity among audience to watch the famous boy from 'Tum Bin' in a new film and that too with a sweetie like Richa Pallod.
'Kaun Hai Jo Sapno Mein Aaya' would have been a great film if only the director could have chosen a more sustainable plot. The story line of the film is from the golden oldies of Hindi Cinema plus some foreign tadka to it along with some songs shot on exotic locales. Thus we get a film like 'Kaun Hai Jo Sapno Mein Aaya'. The movie has opened to very poor house. Even 'Kyun Ho Gaya Na' that has Aishwarya Rai as lead star has not opened to full house. So the situation for 'Kaun Hai Jo Sapno Mein Aaya' could not have been better.

The story line runs on the lines of east meets west or where values of Indian tradition clash with western style of lifestyle. The movie also moves on the lines of 'Hum Aapke Hain Kaun' where we have a huge joint family or 'Maine Pyaar Kiya' where a girl from a countryside comes to stay with some known people in town. The family in question here is headed by Kuldeep Khanna (Kader Khan). It consists of grandmother (Vinita Malik), wife (Navneet Nishan) and two sons Sunny (Rakesh Bapat) and Harry (Surjit Singh Pandher who is hell bent to become an actor in Bollywood though some one needs to remember his last film!).

There are some Mirchi elements too in the family in the name of Bahu (Usha Bachani) and a granddaughter. The family lives on western ethics and Mahek (Richa Pallod) enters the family as a cool breeze. She has come here to stay for some time but due to some mishappenigs she is forced to leave this house. Every one blames her responsible for this. However, it's known later that she was an innocent girl with a weak heart and her days are limited. The revelation works as a U- turn for the whole family and every one now wants Mahek back. Among them is Sunny too. Mahek loves him but knowing her illness she wants to stay away from him. However, Sunny is not such a strong-hearted man. The hearts unite and a love story moves ahead with a song attached to it here and there!

Actually it is a great task to watch 'Kaun Hai Jo Sapno Mein Aaya' in a cinema hall. Every second scene is straight from Rajshri Films. Working on old ideas is not a bad thing, but why not make a complete film on one such story. If Bhansali can remake 'Devdas' why can't there be a remake of 'Dulhan Wahi Jo Piya Man Bhaye'. Director Rajesh Bhatt lacks this. Bhatt should have better gone for an original story than to make a cocktail of so many movies.

Writer Mehmood Ali stands exposed; he must have got a piece of mind from the filmmakers of 'Kaun Hai Jo Sapno Mein Aaya'. Every turn of the film is known before hand and every twist comes as an easy riddle for the viewers, but they do not enjoy solving it. There is no drama in the film; Bhatt has tried to pour in lots of emotions though without success.

If Rajesh Bhatt's direction is horrible, other technical departments have tried to lend full support. Tunes set by none other than Nikhil Vinay sound melodious and sweet to ears. Even Uday Tewari's cinematography is above average. He has very beautifully captured exotic locales of Britain on screen. But most of the actors fail to fall in this category. Except Rakesh and Richa no one gives any care to one's role. Actors like Anupam Kher and Navneet Nishan have been underutilized. There is a full band of other character artistes but most of them have given a mediocre performance. Future of 'Kaun Hai Jo Sapno Mein Aaya' does not need any kind of prediction at the box office. It is a loser; the only saving point being its music rights.
