Firoz A Nadiadwala, who always spells prolific, is a dream producer to many a directors, he has been known to have spent fortunes on his last two mega-ventures - 'Hera Pheri' and 'Awara Pagal Deewana'. He always produces films with mega stars and shoots in exotic foreign locations. But this time the shooting is mainly done in Mumbai and Pune.
After the success of comedy 'Hera Pheri' and comic book actioner 'Awara Pagal Deewana', Nadiadwala is back with an action drama 'Aan - Men At Work' - yet another addition to the cop movies that have been ruling the roost for an year now. Madhur Bhandarkar who directed 'Chandni Bar'and 'Satta', has directed this movie too. 'Aan' is almost parallel to 'Khakee' and was supposed to have the same leading actors as Akshay Kumar and Amitabh Bachchan.

There were also rumors that the storyline of both the movies was supposedly similar. But like all rumors, this too was laid to rest with the passage of time. Also shotgun - Shatrughan Sinha was roped in when the first 45 minutes of 'Aan: Men At Work' has had a series of punches, kicks, bullets, machine-gun fire, shattered glass, smashed skulls, torn arms, broken ribs, blood and death drama. One item number on model- cum- actress Reema (rather lost in the swarm of sexy videshi dancers), follows some more fights and kicks.

And just when you think this Madhur Bhandarkar-directed, Firoz Nadiadwala-produced fight fest will at last get down to telling the story, along comes the interval. Akshay Kumar, Suniel Shetty, Paresh Rawal, and Shatrughan Sinha are cops - the good guys. Jackie Shroff, Irrfan, Rahul Dev, a Mumbai home minister, two Korean muscles, a rival don called Raghu, a bad cop played by Ajinkya Deo, Vijay Raaz, Rajpal Yadav, Shri Vallabh Vyas as a hawala guy are all villains.

Funnily, with so many villains, the enemy keeps changing until you deduce that the four cops will take on the entire system and beat it black and blue! Of the cast, Akshay Kumar is good. Ditto for Suniel Shetty. Paresh Rawal is fun until he lasts and his acting ends up before the interval. Through his acting he did a very comic role, which is being applauded by the viewers. But I have no clue what Shatrughan Sinha is doing in this enterprise.

He looked like he was suffering from a bad hangover throughout the film. And let's not forget the girls. Lara Dutta has precisely four scenes and one song. Preeti Jhangiani has three. Raveena Tandon plays a character that does not make any sense; she has maybe four scenes. The editing is interesting. Since 'Aan' is digitally graded, it looks good.

But the sound is so loud, it gives you a headache. But the young generation likes it a lot because of the action scenes performed by Akshay and Suniel. The action is ripped off in every Hollywood film you know and is relentless. The tuneless songs, mercifully only three, are played just partially in the first half. The script is like a train that keeps going on and off the track after being late for 40 minutes.
