A movie never works because of the good looks of the actor or the actress. Nowadays people are clever enough and therefore watch only those movies, which have some meaning or are based on facts. If you loved Saif in 'Dil Chahta Hai' or 'Kal Ho Na Ho' etc, this film is going to be a feast for you and other viewers too.

The movie starts with a flash back. A latest from the Yash Raj banner and directed by Kunal Kohli, 'Hum Tum', features Saif Ali Khan along with Rani Mukerjee at his wittiest. It's a story of Karan Kapoor (Saif Ali Khan) who works, as a cartoonist with one of India's leading newspapers i.e is the Times of India. Karan runs a cartoon strip in the paper under the name of 'Hum Tum'. Bearing resemblance to no country or religion, 'Hum Tum' is a boy and a girl in the cartoon strip. It's the only division Karan sees in this world and he has no respect for any woman except his mom.

Rani Mukerjee plays Rhea who is a very fun loving girl. Both have been meeting on a regular basis at various stages in their lives. But every meeting has ended on a bad note. Karan's first incident started with Rhea in Amsterdam. They disagreed on everything. So to put things right, Karan innocently kissed her to confirm their friendship, but Rani became very angry and after reaching New York things went worse and the meeting ended on a bad note. It's then that Karan realized Rhea's unstable nature - and that she had a heavy hand! Six months moved past and once again these two met in New York in a very unusual situation as Saif was flirting with one of Rani's old friend.

The Amsterdam kiss is still fresh in Rhea's mind and she spills the beans to Karan's steady girlfriend. Another relationship down the drain! It's been 10 years since their first encounter. Once again Rhea and Karan become friends despite their differences. Rhea has gone through some personal tragedies in her life and that her husband Abhisek Bachchan who had a special appearance in the film dies in an accident. After that Rani has faces lots of ups and downs, but Karan has always been there for her. During this time she has moved all over the place from Mumbai to Paris to New York and back to Mumbai.

Karan even tried fixing her up with a friend of his that is Jimmy Shergil with her mother's permission of course - but as with everything else, this didn't quite work out either. As luck would have it, Karan's career as a cartoonist was soaring and so one thing led to another and Rhea took off once again on a bad note. But despite their mishaps, destiny has bigger plans for Karan and Rhea. The film also stars Rishi Kapoor, Rati Agnihotri and Kiron Kher. The musical score for this film is composed by Jatin-Lalit, which has been picturized in beautiful locations, which catch the eye.
Kiron Kher has played mother of Rani in an excellent way. Her acting in the movie makes people laugh a lot. This time Saif has tried to portray a different role, and he proves to be successful. And Rani as usual gives her best on the screen, with a chulbuli character. She is emotional and fun loving too.
