Critic's I-view
The hottest pair of today's acting generation marks the beginning of box office barometer of the year 2004. The Hindu-Muslim strong bond of love and sacrifice is the highlight of the film. The year has opened up with 'Raaz' super hit pair Dino Morea and Bipasha Basu in Padmalaya's Telefilms Ltd 'Ishq Hai Tumse'. The film has a major hangover of evergreen super hit 'Hum Aapke Hai Kaun' as the story line of the film is set in marriage celebrations. During the past few years we have witnessed hundreds of films that have a backdrop of marriage celebration where the script of the film has taken a backseat. 'Ishq Hai Tumse' falls in the category where confused plot coupled with poor narration has paved the way for its disaster. This is a remake of Telegu hit 'Sampangi' which means flower. Bipasha Basu has been instrumental in hits like 'Raaz' and 'Jism', but in this film she lacks the charisma of enticing the audience. The success of 'Ssshhh..' has given a lot of confidence to Dino Morea and he looks promising in this film. Dino Morea has got a lot of sex appeal but he still lacks good screen presence. He is one such model- tured- actor who has broken the jinx that good models can't act. G.A.Sheshagiri Rao makes, while G.Krishna directs it. The film revolves around two bosom friends -- Shanker Thakur (Vikram Gokhale) and Nawab Usman Ali (Alok Nath) whose friendship sets an example of brotherhood.
The occasion is Usman's daughter's wedding where the two families assemble. Usman's youngest daughter Khushboo (Bipasha Basu) and Thakur's youngest son Arjun (Dino Morea) meet and fall in love. It's love at first sight, which blossoms in their wedding. Despite different religious background both the families share love and respect for each other. The film has a strong dosage of ethnic Muslim culture. Bipasha looks ravishing in western outfits but she is a complete misfit in ethnic dresses. Her distinct hairstyle hasn't added to her grace as she should prefer roles which suite her persona. Dino's character has not worked out properly as his confused state of mind has decimated the entertainment content. The on screen chemistry of Dino and Bipasha would have worked wonders if it has been well knitted.
However, the story falls flat in the climax. After the marriage Thakur suffers from kidney failure. In this crisis Thakur's best friend Usman donates his kidney and saves his life. Arjun feels obliged with this benevolent act and decides to sacrifice his love. He hides his love for Khushboo as he fears that his love for her might break the bond of friendship between the two families. Arjun decides to break his silence by sending his uncle Raj (Tiku Talsania) to Usman's residence to disclose his love for Khushboo. Unfortunately, Raj collapses at the airport and dies of heart failure. Arjun considers it as bad omen and prefers to leave Khushboo.
Khushboo comes to Arjun's home and tries to win his heart but he does not respond. Infuriated by Arjun's reaction she prefers to tie knot with the boy of her parent's choice. In due course of time Usman finds a suitable match for Khushboo. Arjun's family assembles in Usman's place for Khushboo's wedding. On the wedding day both the families learn to know about the relationship. Usman foils the marriage and helps the love- birds (Arjun and Khushboo). The positive side is the strong bond of love and friendship between the two different religious communities. Hindu Boy Arjun prays in mosque for his love and Khushboo, the Muslim girl prays in the temple.
The negative side of the movie is the weak script and the poor narration, which pay for the debacle of the film. G.Krishna's direction lacks the depth and penetration to depict human emotions in true colors. One fails to understand Arjun's state of mind when he decides to sacrifice his love for his family. Himesh Reshammiya's music is good, especially the qawaali number which is shot beautifully. The director has not accommodated the rest of the songs properly as most of them are dream sequences. Veteran actors like Alok Nath and Vikram Gokhale impress with their performances. Bipasha Basu has not been able to repeat her sensuous touch. Dino Morea has improved, but he needs to brush up his acting skill. Dino should try his hand on comical stuff like Saif has done. Songs like 'Dil Dil' and 'O Soniye' will certainly find top slots in many chartbusters. The repetitive formula makes things even worse. The filmmakers have not materialized the hot on-screen chemistry of Bipasha Basu and Dino Morea properly. They have rather overemphasized the formula of love affair blossoming in marriages. Vikram Bhatt's brilliance made star out of Bipasha and Dino in 'Raaz', but director G.Krishna's artwork would not prove exceptional.
