Jungle Raj, gory deaths, gun-trotting violence, and family feuds are what 'Aanch' is all about. The film, which has a backdrop of Uttar Pradesh village, is about the story of two village heads fighting for supremacy and power. 'Aanch' is made under the banner of New Century Films Pvt Ltd. B.L.Sagoo and Poonam Jhawer have produced the film. B.L.Saggo, the L.P.G. cylinder tycoon, is the managing director of Saboo Group of Industries; his earlier production was 'Kuch Khatti Kuch Meethi' starring Kajol and Suniel Shetty. Rajesh Kumar Singh directs the film.

The star cast includes Nana Patekar, Paresh Rawal, Ayesha Jhulka, Poonam Jhawer, Nirmal Pandey, Sharbani Mukherjee and a new comer Suchindra Bali. Poonam Jhawer, the other producer, is an ex- model- turned actress. Poonam modeled in 'Killer Jeans' and 'Palmolive' soap. She made debut in 'Mohra' opposite Suniel Shetty. Poonam is the first actress turned producer with a non-filmi background. In the film, she plays an important female lead. Sanjiv-Darshan, sons of music director Shravan, are the music composers. The film marks the debut of yet another star son Suchinder Bali. Suchinder is the son of yesteryears' heartthrob of Bollywood actress Vyjanthimala. Sharbani Mukherjee plays the romantic lead opposite Suchinder. 'Aanch' is the story of love and hate relationship of two village heads --Nana Patekar and Paresh Rawal. Nana Patekar is back in action with his razor sharp dialogue delivery.

Nana's earlier performance in films like 'Krantiveer', 'Prahaar' and 'Parinda' was mind blowing, but this time he has failed. The performance of Nana is a replica of his earlier release 'Shakti-The Power' starring Karisma Kapoor and Sanjay Kapoor. Like in 'Shakti', Nana plays the character of a ruthless village head that is violent and hot tempered. Paresh Rawal is the other village head that is arrogant and aggressive. Paresh Rawal who is known for his comical talents disappoints with his performance. After a long time, Ayesha Jhulka returns to silver screen in a violent blood-shedding saga. Ayesha plays an important female lead though.

Sharbani Mukherjee, the cousin of Kajol and Rani Mukherjee, is back in a romantic lead after making debut in J.P. Dutta's 'Border' opposite Suniel Shetty. The surprise package of the show is Suchinder Bali, who has worked in Tamil films. After Hrithik, Abhishek and Fardeen, Suchinder joins the bandwagon of starsons, but he lacks screen presence. Suchinder has failed miserably with lifeless performance and Sharbani hasn't shown any promise. According to Nana, 'Aanch' is based on a real story, which took place in Akhankhora village near Banaras and major parts of the film were shot there. It's true that fact is stranger than fiction. The story of 'Aanch' explores the crudity and barbarism of the rural life. The depiction of real life dramas has its pros and cons.

The positive side is that we come across harsh realities of life and the dark side is that audiences are fed with serious boring stuff, which becomes difficult to digest. Nana Patekar and Paresh Rawal are two tyrannical village heads who hate each other.

The story of the film takes a topsy-turvy turn when Suchinder of Paresh Rawal's village and Sharbani of Nana's village decide to tie the knot. The ceremonial preparations of marriage take place but the people of both the villages get ready to confront each other in case of a brawl. Suchinder and Sharbani are unaware of this. During the marriage ceremony, a quarrel breaks out while watching a nautanki song resulting in a halt of the proceedings. Country-made guns are out. Dejected Sharbani decides to return to her city to pursue her studies. Suchinder too remains in the city for studies. As destiny has its own verdict, Suchinder and Sharbani meet. It's love at first sight but depressed Sharbani does not respond to Suchinder's love. Infuriated by the Sharbani's negative response, Suchinder returns to his village where he comes to know that Sharbani is his legally wedded wife. Suchinder commences his struggle to rescue Sharbani from the two orthodox village heads. The story culminates into barbaric act of violence and bloodshed.

Director Rajesh Kumar Singh has taken a bold step in depicting the real life violent saga but the treatment of the film lacks depth and penetration. The direction and story falls flat on its face in the climax when Nana places revolver on his head and the bullet flies from his to Paresh's head. The real life drama looks ridiculous and imaginative. Kamlesh Pandey's story is weird and lacks the spontaneity. Sanjiv- Darshan music is unimpressive, no song has managed to hit the charts, and even the song sung by Nana 'Sun Meri Rani' is avoidable. Nana has tried his vocal chord and dances with a village belle much to the delight of his fans. Besides Nana, Paresh Rawal's talent is wasted in a bloodshed drama. Ayesha Jhulka and Poonam Jhawer have justified their roles, but Suchinder Bali and Sharbani Mukherjee need polishing.
