Although Vashu Bhagnani's last few films have failed miserably at the box office, yet there is something or the other about his films that is new and exciting. Be it the publicity or the packaging and marketing of the film, Vashu never fails to excite.
However, this time he may prove lucky with his new film 'Out Of Control'. He has given a break to not only one but two directors in this new film plus a sensuous lady called Brande Rodericks. She is the proverbial icing on the cake in this venture.
On the whole, the film is not bad. The film does have its share of entertainment and could have been better. Vashu's personal liking seems to have overtaken the film at many places and having known him for the last half a decade, one can be sure that the time is not far when Vashu will be in a position to start as a director. 'Out Of Control' is worth watching for two reasons. One, if you want to see Baywatch girl Brande and second, for some beautiful landscapes captured on silver screen for the first time in and around America.
'Out Of Control' is 'Gharwali Baharwali' revisited. A man with big dreams in his eyes lands in a situation where he has to literally divide himself between two wives. Infidelity, though, has not been a favorite subject in Hindi films seeing the Indian traditions. But Bollywood history has it that whenever it has been tried on silver screen, people have given due attention to such films. Be it Sanjeev Kumar's 'Pati, Patni Aur Voh' or 'Ek Nai Paheli' of Raj Kumar, Kamal Hassan and Hema Malini. But, 'Out Of Control' keeps away from the serious side of this kind of genre. It fits into a totally different league. Ritesh Deshmukh acts as Jaswinder. He is a guy from Patiala who has reached America to make his dreams come true. He has ambitions and wants to reach the sky from the land of opportunities.
Opportunity does come his way but not in the shape of some lucrative offer from an MNC but as Sally (Bandre Roderick). Sally is always ready to help the needy and Jaswinder just needs an extension for his visa. Saucy, steamy and sensuous Sally needs a husband in return. They both agree and next stop is a church where both of them get married. Cut to India. Jaswinder has a family back in India too. His father Jatta Singh Bedi (Amrish Puri) wants his son to marry apni kudi Richa (Hrishita Bhatt). Jatta Singh thinks that once his son is married, everything will be perfectly fine. So he summons Jaswinder back to Punjab. Jaswinder cannot tell his father about Sally and also cannot deny marrying Richa. The result? Jaswinder has two wives now and once back in America, an utter confusion lies ahead of this young lad. However, in true Bollywood style, there are people to help him out like Flower (Satish Shah), but all this goes in vain when Jatta Singh and Richa too land in America hand in hand.
With 'Out Of Control', Bollywood moves one step ahead towards building a closer relationship with Hollywood. This is not as if no one has taken Hollywood actors or actresses in Hindi films, but this union has a better timing. If Dev Anand had this connection in 'Swami Dada', Amir Khan had it in 'Awwal Number'. There have been many films too where filmmakers delved into comparing the traditions and cultures of East and West right from the film 'Purab Aur Paschim'. This being the first film to encash on the culture clash. The issue is very serious but producer Vashu Bhagnani prefers to present it in a light way. So he has given the task to two newcomers, Directors Ramanjit Juneja and Aporva Asrani. They have tried to make the film looks glossy and with a certain appeal so that the film can catch the attention of young generation who is hooked to remixing videos these days. And, Brande does quench this thirst. But the surprise lies in her acting. Apart from exposing her body liberally, she does good acting too. Especially in the scenes where she faces Jatta Singh. Ritesh Deshmukh too has improved a lot from his last film but he is still miles behind sizing up to a mainstream hero. He needs to hone his acting skills and should also improve his dialogue delivery at places. Amrish Puri and Satish Kaushik have done excellent work in the film. So does Satish Shah. It is seniors in the film who save the film from falling into the failure category.
Although the film starts on a good note and is pacy, the post-interval film loses crispness. The script is faulty in this second half of the film. Unfortunately, it is the climax that mars the prospects of the film. Music of the film is good. Low profile music director Anand Raaj Anand has come up with some good numbers. But some songs need to be chopped as they hinder the progression. Technically 'Out of Control' is excellent, be it cinematography wise or in other departments. The film may not bring in rains of notes for Vashu but this time he is not going to be a loser either.
