Juhi Chawla is an award-winning Indian actress who appears in Bollywood films. Initially starting with mainstream films, Chawla is now appearing in parallel cinema.

Juhi Chawla is married to industrialist Jai Mehta and is the mother of two children.

She has one brother named Sanjeev. She graduated from Sydenham College, Mumbai.

Juhi Chawla was the winner of Miss India title in 1984, later she won Best Costume Award for the Miss Universe contest in 1984. After winning the Miss India title, acting seemed to be the next best option for the pretty girl who was born in Ludhiana, Punjab. Juhi did quite a few ads before she got her first film 'Sultanat' which was to be directed by Mukul Anand. The film did not do much for her but the next film 'Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak' was a blockbuster where she played the young, chirpy teenager in love to perfection.

In spite of doing some good roles throughout her career, the number one position eluded this charming actress. Films like 'Love Love Love', 'Radha Ka Sangam', 'Tadipaar', 'Benaam Badshah', 'Shanti Kranti', 'Bhabhi', 'Pratibandh' and 'Karz Chukana Hai' flopped despite good banners and her career was going nowhere. However, the success of 'Bol Radha Bol' and 'Raju Ban Gaya Gentleman' saved her.

Madhuri Dixit's number one status continued to haunt Juhi until she gave three hits in a row, 'Darr', 'Aaina' and 'Hum Hain Rahi Pyaar Ke', proving her power at the box office. She almost replaced Madhuri at this point till the luck factor in her life played cruel again with duds like 'Andaz', 'Aatank Hi Aatank', 'Kartavya', 'Naajayaz', 'Ram Jaane', 'Daraar' and 'Bandish'.

Some wrong choices and a little insecurity proved to be detrimental to Juhi Chawla's career. Films like 'Raja Hindustani', 'Dil To Pagal Hai' and 'Vaastav' which Juhi refused went on to become huge successes.

The industry has not failed to give her due though. Juhi still shines in occasional films like 'Yes Boss', 'Duplicate', 'Salaam-e-Ishq: A Tribute To Love', 'Swami' and 'Bas Ek Pal'. Some are hits, some are not. But, then the talented actress has risen above such factors anyway.
