Better late than never! Bollywood has finally delivered a brilliant story and film in 'Ferrari Ki Sawaari'. One could hail the flick as perfect in all respects - emotion, humor, action, dance and songs and masala. Producer Vidhu Vinod Chopra is known to deliver unique films, but credit must go also to debutant director Rajesh Mapuskar, writer Rajkumar Hirani and the cast. The plot and screenplay are smart and slick, Hirani's dialogues are superbly written for the outstanding theme that explores the relationship between a father and son. Kudos!
Kayo played by Ritvik Sahore turns out to be a fantastic cricketer. His father, Rusy, played by Sharman Joshi works as head clerk at Worli RTO. He is rightly called Raja Harishchandra by others for leading a simple, sincere and honest life. A single parent, he is all the more ready to fulfill his son's dream of playing at Lord's, the Mecca of cricket. The irony is that Rusy's father, i.e. Kayo's grandfather played by Boman Irani, is a cricketing legend and dissuades his son and grandson from pursuing the game. But Rusy is determined to let Kayo play and shine in cricket at any cost. He even convinces his father to teach Kayo every skill needed to reach the top. Kayo is selected on merit but he needs Rs 150,000 as fee. Father is unable to get a loan against his meager wages. So, grandfather decides to seek help from his long lost cricketer friend Dharmadhikari played by Paresh Rawal.
The twist comes with a local wedding planner, played by Seema Pahawa, who has promised a thug politician a Ferrari car for the thug son's marriage procession. Seema has fancy for Rusy and Kayo. She persuades Rusy to exploit his cricket ka rishta (relationship with cricket) by borrowing legendary cricketer Sachin Tendulkar's Ferrari to rent it for the marriage and make the needed Rs 150,000 for Kayo's cricket fee. Rusy succeeds but the money gets left in the car which is seized by the traffic police for being parked in the middle of the road. Rusy's father then tries to recover the money from the Ferrari. Rusy manages to get the money and deposits it with the cricket association. Kayo leaves for the Lord's to fulfill the dream.
Sharman Joshi as Rusy is excellent and is wonderfully supported by Boman Irani as Rusy's father and Ritvik Sahore as budding cricketer Kayo. Boman's Parsi nuances are natural. Paresh Rawal fares well in a brief role. Satyadeep Misra as coach Vilayat and Seema Pahawa as wedding planner are terrific. Seema demonstrates potential with excellent dialogue delivery. 'The Dirty Picture' Vidya Balan presents an excellent 'Lavani' dance and enthralls the audience with all the masala they need. The cinematography by Sudheer Palsane is brilliant. Pritam's music is melodious and in plenty. The movie could have used fewer Ferrari scenes.
Overall, a brilliant flick and a must watch!!!
