Chaitanya Rao presents an inspirational collection of glamorous diversity at Lakme Fashion Week.
Mumbai,October 15,2007 :
For Spring/Summer 2008, Chaitanya Rao's look at the Lakme Fashion Week was inspired by the fictional diverse worlds from Neil Gaiman's "Neverwhere". Keeping in tune with the theme the garments were a blend of solids and sheer in shades of skin tones, beige, brown and splashes of sun yellow and ended with stark black.
The fabric story matched the two fold inspiration as linen, organza and silk with large doses of leather were high lighted with tonal bead work, layering and surface texturing that added to the character of the collection.
Opening with a along neutral organza gown with a mini lining, Chaitanya followed it with a pleated sheer bubble with a yellow inner, then a ruffled mini in the same colour with a smocked waist blouse and threw in some linen suits with interesting yellow satin lining for the long sleeves.
Jackets sported wide peak lapels for the light linen suits. The trousers had more volume than the rest of garments reflecting a retro look of the 50s.
The striking pieces were the red shirt shift with raglan sleeves and cream appliqué flowers, the gold metallic inner worn with a black linen suit and the line of Amazon inspired black gowns with leather layering complemented with steel neck pieces.
The finale ensemble was an ivory long coat worn over a tiny shimmering baby doll dress which further highlighted the theme of the collection.
Chaitanya Rao's look spelt chic dressing all the way whether for day or evening wear.
