Provogue GIFA Awards 2006 Night Over 4000 ecstatic fans thronged the Putra Stadium to witness the five-hour award function, attended by Malaysia's Queen, Prime Minister Abdullah Badawi and Deputy Premier Najib Tun Razak and the cream of Indian cinema. Shatrughna Sinha and wife Ponam Sinha were seated along with the Royals of Malaysia in the front row. Earlier at the red carpet fans went wild over Salman but were upset that Shah Rukh made a backdoor entry and ignored them there. Upen Patel walked in with girl friend Shamita Hrithik came with his family. John and Bipasha made a classy entry and made sure their fans got the picture or the handshake. Many fans waited for Kajol and Rani, but they never made it. Shah Rukh Khan made his grand entry sporting the Don look and gave a long speech but said that he would not perform as promised as he had a leg injury dude to hamstring. Among the performers were Abhishek which got the most reposnse from the audience, Then there was Salman giving a never before live act followed by Katrina, Priyanka and Amisha. Hrithik Roshan walked off with the Best Actor award for his superhero role in Krissh and dusky beauty Bipasha Basu won the Best Actress award for her role in Corporate, beating big names like Kajol, Kareena Kapoor and Rani Mukherjee. Director Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra's Rang De Basanti, India's official entry for the Oscars in the Best Foreign Film category, had in its kitty awards in the categories of Best Director, Best Supporting Actress (Soha Ali Khan), Best Music (A R Rahman), Best Lyrics, Best Screenplay, Best Editing, Best Back ground Score (A R Rahman) and Best Art Director. Abishek Bachchan won in the Best Supporting Actor category for his role in Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna, beating his own father superstar Amitabh Bachchan. Hrithik Roshan dedicated the award to his father Rakesh Roshan and described him as a "true superhero". A separate award was given to Rakesh Roshan for his outstanding contribution to Indian cinema over the past 35 years.
