Bollywood directors and producers have been able to picturise all important subjects that one can think of except for some reason AIDS. Now, a non governmental organization ActionAid has come forward and made a film on AIDS titled 'Ek Alag Mausam' starring Anupam Kher, Nandita Das and Renuka Shahane. K.P. Sasi directs the film.
'Ek Alag Mausam' is a love story about a couple and the denial of basic rights to HIV positive people. The film includes songs by music director Ravi and sung by Hariharan and Anuradha Paudwal. It's based on a script by playwright Mahesh Dattani. The film will be released next month.
Jeroninio Almeida, the fund-raising director of ActionAid, feels that a serious subject can be dealt with in an entertaining way, without trivialising the issue. For Action Aid, this is the beginning of a new fund-raising concept too. The organisation had spent Rs 50 lakh for the making of the movie. It has already sold the music rights of the film and is planning to release it for the urban as well as the rural film audiences of India.
Next on their list is Shyam Benegal's 'Samar', starring Rajit Kapoor and Rajeshwari Sachdev. It is based on the book Unheard Voices of India, written by Harsh Mander. The film raises issues about Dalits. ActionAid will be involved in releasing it in partnership with Pritish Nandy Communications.
